Ryan W. Lovell

Ryan W. Lovell Interim Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President, Senior Director, Parent and Family Relations

Ryan, in his role as Interim Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President, serves on the executive leadership team for the Office of Student Life.  Ryan provides leadership and oversight of parent and family relations, Residence Life, student support through advocacy, empowering students with disabilities and conduct concerns. Ryan earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from West Chester University, and his master's degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University. He has been at Ohio State since 2007, and previously held student life positions at Hartwick College and Lehigh University.



Beth Fines

Beth Fines Director, STEP Co-Curricular Engagement and Academic Initiatives

Beth leads the development and implementation of tailored co-curricular opportunities for second-year students, in addition to overseeing STEP student recruitment efforts and the ambassador program.  In her work within Student Life Residence Life, she leads the development and implementation of residential learning communities, cultivates opportunities for student and faculty engagement in the residence halls and partners closely with a variety of academic units across campus to design and support student success initiatives.  She received her BA in English and Secondary Education from Indiana University and an MA in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan. 

Toni Greenslade-Smith

Toni Greenslade-Smith Director, Housing and STEP Administration

Toni is responsible for housing contracts, leases, billing, and assignments for the Columbus and the regional campuses. She oversees summer conference housing and the STEP program fellowship awards. She received a BA in Spanish from Hiram College and an MA in higher education administration from Ohio State. She has been at Ohio State with Student Life since 1980.

Cheryl Lyons

Cheryl Lyons Director, Disability Services

Cheryl Lyons and the Student Life Disability Services team collaborate with and empower students with disabilities and serve as consulting resources for university faculty and staff. Their office coordinates the support services and programs that enable equal access to an education and university life for over 3,000 registered students. SLDS services include Access Specialists, Exam Services, Interpreters, Transcribers, a Braillist and Accessible Media Services.

Cheryl has served the Office of Student Life as a Student Affairs Generalist and Director within University Housing since 1997. She holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a MS in College Student Personnel Services from Miami University. Before coming to Ohio State, Cheryl served as Coordinator of Student Development at California Polytechnic State University.



Kimberly Pachell

Kimberly Pachell Director, Student Advocacy Center

Kimberly has been with the Student Advocacy Center since the office opened in 1995. Prior to serving in this role, she worked for several years in the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences as the Assistant to the Dean and brought with her a great deal of institutional history and knowledge. She has served on a variety of committees, many of which have focused on improving the student experience. Kimberly has made a career out of serving Buckeyes and helping them to reach their goal of graduating from Ohio State. Kimberly earned her BA from Ohio State in Psychology with a Counseling Specialization. She came here from northeastern Ohio as a student and never left... she bleeds Scarlet and Gray! Go Bucks!



Kelly B. Smith

Kelly B. Smith Director, Student Conduct

Kelly leads Student Life Student Conduct, which is responsible for the university-wide administration of the Code of Student Conduct. The department upholds the university community’s standards and establishes students’ accountability for their choices through an equitable and inclusive process.

Between earning a BA in History (1991) and an MA in Higher Education (2003) from Ohio University, Kelly received her JD from Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law. She practiced law in Columbus for four years. She has been at the university since 2003 and joined the Student Life Student Conduct staff in 2012.

Qiana Smith, PhD

Qiana Smith, PhD Interim Director, Residence Life

Dr. Smith has over 15 years of Residence Life experience and is currently serving as Interim Director of Residence Life in addition to carrying out her Associate Director of Residence Life responsibilities. There are over 14,000 students that live on campus at The Ohio State University and Residence Life has over 60 staff members who work to create extraordinary student experiences. As Associate Director of Residence Life, Dr. Smith is responsible for the day to day operations of half of the residential communities on campus. 

Dr. Smith earned a BS in sociology from Central Michigan University and both a MA in student affairs administration and a PhD in higher, adult and lifelong education from Michigan State University. She has worked in Residence Life at The Ohio State University since July of 2016.

Willie J. Young, Sr.

Willie J. Young, Sr. Senior Director, Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services

Willie supervises the team that assists students, faculty, and staff in finding housing off campus, helps to integrate students into the off-campus community, provides educational information and connections to community resources, and strives to create a safer community. Willie received a BS in education and an MA in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University. He has been at Ohio State since 1990 and in the student life profession since 1973.
