Prior to her time with Buckeye Leadership Fellows, Mercedes worked in Public Relations Agencies and at the with Werth PR and Geben Communications, where she built deep roots in advocacy and storytelling, specifically in social justice and nonprofit spaces.  She graduated from the University of Toledo with a Major in Crisis Communications and a Minor in Political Science. In addition to Buckeye Leadership Fellows, she is an author of a collection of contemporary poetry titled, "One Without The Other" which has landed her on the Amazon Best Selling chart topper list in three categories. Mercedes is also a speaker and a recent YWCA Leader for Social Change graduate, an interdisciplinary cohort that takes 20 of Ohio's top leaders each year.
