Your Student Life: Summer in Columbus

May 9, 2024

Summer is a quieter time on campus, but there is no reason to feel bored in Central Ohio. There are plenty of attractions, events and destinations for you to enjoy.

A good place to start is D-Tix discount tickets. They have your reduced-price ticket to sports, concerts and the arts throughout the summer months, and you might find ideas for activities you hadn’t considered before.

Among the hot items from D-Tix this summer are tickets to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Discounted tickets are $10, available two per BuckID and they don’t expire until January 1, 2025, so you can even use them for their amazing Wildlights display this winter. You can get to the zoo by riding COTA.

Summer is a great time to visit a tropical garden filled with butterflies. The Franklin Park Conservatory (on East Broad Street on the east side of Columbus) has created a tropical haven where exotic butterflies of all sizes and colors fly freely and feed on nectar from colorful blooms. You can even help release newly hatched butterflies. The exhibit is open through July 7.

The Buckeyes aren’t the only sports team in town. The Columbus Crew SC season is in full swing, as well as baseball’s Columbus Clippers, the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. You can get tickets for either team through D-Tix.

Would you rather participate than watch? Most Rec Sports facilities are open over the summer.

If you are looking to get in out of the heat there are always interesting exhibits at the Wexner Center for the Arts or at the Columbus Museum of Art. And visit the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in Sullivant Hall.
