Your Student Life: World Kindness Day

November 5, 2024

Spreading kindness is truly such a beautiful thing. It even has its own day! World Kindness Day is Wednesday, Nov. 13, but here at Ohio State, we love spreading kindness every day.

We have a Kindness Initiative that helps share appreciation and gratitude all year long, and I’d love it if you would join the effort by showing kindness to others.

You can spread kindness by sending your own kudos through the Kindness at Ohio State website.  This is a great way to thank a coworker, mentor, family member, roommate or anyone of your choosing and put some more kindness out into the world! You can send as many kudos as you wish to keep spreading the kindness. You’ll find examples of appreciative notes others have sent, and, if you click on the “Give Your Own Kudos” you’ll find graphics you can use to compose a note to someone you want to recognize. You will make their day!

With so many activities that encourage kindness constantly happening around campus, the Kindness at Ohio State website also gives you the option to sign up to receive notifications when these events take place. Sign up for the Kindness listserv and see the amazing acts of kindness on our campus! We’d love it if you would volunteer to help out at some of our events.

The wonderful thing about kindness is that it does as much good for you as it does for the recipient. When you are stressed or anxious, especially about things you can’t control, taking the time to think of others can be extremely helpful. It gives you a sense of purpose, and there is scientific evidence that it is good for your physical wellbeing and your mental health.

Expressing gratitude and showing kindness is so important for not only your own health, but for those around you as well. Spreading kindness can help ease anxiety and depression while creating beautiful social connections which can truly brighten someone’s day. This is so important for the well-being of our amazing Buckeye community.

World Kindness Day is a global celebration that promotes the importance of showing kindness to yourself, those around you and to the world. Make sure to look for acts of kindness happening on campus on Nov. 13!
