Well, Well Wellness
Lots of folks struggle with January in Ohio: it’s cold, it’s dark, and we are adjusting to a new semester. Maybe your winter break wasn’t everything you hoped for, or maybe it was awesome and it’s hard to be back on campus. It is not uncommon to feel sad or listless, and folks may experience anything from a touch of the “Winter Blues” to Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's okay to acknowledge you're struggling, and to reach out to supportive others and ask for what you need. Check out the offerings from Student Life and other campus partners.
Did you know?
Almost 70% of students at Ohio State complete an internship during college, and students who complete an internship are 2.6 times more likely to have a job at graduation than their peers? If you are interested in applying for an internship for this summer, register and log into Handshake to check out opportunities. If you have questions about how to start, need to work on your resume or even explore career options, schedule an appointment with a career coach in Buckeye Careers.
Stop Hazing
Ohio State is committed to promoting a safe and healthy environment where you have the right to be free from hazing. The university has a comprehensive policy in place which prohibits the hazing of students and establishes requirements for hazing education, reporting and response in accordance with Collin’s Law: Ohio’s Anti Hazing Act. As part of the policy, annual anti-hazing training is required of all students and employees. To complete the training, visit go.osu.edu/StopHazing.
Leadership Awards
This year’s Leadership Awards nominations are open now through Monday, Jan. 30. You can apply or nominate others online at go.osu.edu/LeadershipAwards. There are a number of categories that celebrate those who demonstrate exceptional skills in leadership, activism and community engagement.
Things to do on campus
You don’t have to be a fitness expert to get your life in motion during the winter. Whether you enjoy lifting weights, challenging your cardio or relaxing in yoga, Student Life Recreational Sports offers accessible classes for all bodies and all levels. Besides, physical activity is good for your mental health, too. Check out all your options: https://recsports.osu.edu/programs/fitness-and-wellness/group-fitness.
OH! the places you’ll go
Looking for something to do on a cold, drab winter day? How about a movie at Gateway Film Center. You can save money by getting tickets through D-Tix, Ohio State’s discount ticket program. Gateway film tickets are just $3 each, two per BuckID for current Ohio State Columbus campus students. D-Tix has plenty of other opportunities as well, including shows, museums, concerts, sporting events and more available at an exclusive rate. High Five
High Five to Ankit Annapareddy, a 4th year student studying neuroscience. He is a very active member of Pay It Forward, the local service programs cohort through the Leadership and Community Engagement department. Ankit is a co-chair of the Local Service Trips initiative with Pay It Forward. In this role, Ankit helps plan, facilitate and market bi-weekly service trips for Ohio State students. He was a key planner for the recent Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. High Five, Ankit, for truly caring about connecting students with the Columbus community through service.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to engage with leadership and service through Student Life. Check it out online: https://lead.osu.edu/community-engagement

I’d like to introduce you to the director of the Center for Belonging and Social Change, Dr. Aliya Beavers. Meet Dr. Beavers: https://studentlife.osu.edu/people/aliya-beavers/
