Your Student Life: Your Guide to Healthcare on Campus (Undergrad)

Coming to Ohio State is an exciting new chapter and taking care of your health is an important part of your success. Buckeyes have access to high-quality health care, conveniently located right here on campus.
For unexpected, routine and preventive healthcare, Student Health Services is your first stop for on-campus medical care. We are staffed by a team of physicians, nurse practitioners and specialists and feature onsite pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and physical therapy. Whether you need a routine checkup, a prescription refill, treatment for an illness, or support managing an ongoing health condition, our team is here to help.
The Wilce Student Health Center is located between the RPAC and Thompson library, making it easy to get the care you need without leaving campus.
Understand Your Insurance Coverage
Because Student Health Services is a fee-for-service medical facility, services are billed separately and are not covered by tuition. Students have two health insurance options:
1. Stay enrolled in the Student Health Benefits Plan offered by Ohio State
2. Provide Ohio State with your current medical insurance information
Taking a few minutes now to understand your health insurance coverage can help ensure a smooth experience when you need care.
Eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Benefits Plan. The plan provides low out-of-pocket costs and coverage on campus, nationwide and abroad. It includes medical, mental health, prescription, dental and vision care.
You have the option to waive the Student Health Benefits Plan; however, before you do this, you should contact your insurance plan to verify Student Health Services is an in-network provider. If your insurance is out-of-network or an HMO plan, ask whether your plan offers away-from-home coverage. It is important to understand that if Student Health Services is out-of-network, then most of the medical facilities close to campus will also be out-of-network. Use the Benefit Comparison Tool to compare your insurance coverage to Student Health Benefits. Doing this now will help prevent unexpected bills later.
When contacting your insurance provider, ask whether Student Health Services is a contracted provider and provide the following information:
- Tax ID: 31-6025986
- Facility NPI: 1942274410
- Pharmacy NPI: 1952347445
If your current plan provides limited coverage in the Columbus area, consider enrolling in the Ohio State Student Health Benefits Plan, which offers comprehensive coverage designed for students.
If you already have sufficient coverage and do not need the university plan, be sure to complete the insurance waive process in BuckeyeLink by August 18.
Upload Your Insurance Cards to Student Health Services
MyBuckMD is the patient portal for Student Health Services. Upload your medical and prescription insurance cards to MyBuckMD today to prepare for future appointments. Once we have your insurance information on file it will expedite care and delays when unexpected situations arise.
To upload your insurance cards:
- Log in at go.osu.edu/MyBuckMD
- Select Document Uploads
- Upload clear images of the front and back of each insurance card
It's also a good idea to keep a physical or digital copy of your insurance card available for appointments.
