Your Student Life: Out of the Darkness Campus Walk
March 18, 2025
Raise awareness and help prevent suicide at Ohio State by captaining or joining a team for the 6th annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, across the Columbus, Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Wooster campuses. All undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, staff, faculty and alumni are invited to participate.
The Columbus campus walk is around the Oval with opening ceremonies and activities before, during and after the walk in the Tom C. Davis Gym in the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC).
This collaborative event with Ohio State’s Suicide Prevention Program and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a journey of remembrance, hope and support and an opportunity to unite our Buckeye community by acknowledging the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
With suicide being the third leading cause of death among people ages 15-24, the key to decreasing suicides is to increase awareness with events and programs like the walk. It creates a culture of care on campus by recognizing that it’s ok to ask, “Are you ok?” Embracing programs and events like the walk sends a clear message: No one should go through their Buckeye experience alone.
83 cents of every dollar raised for the walk directly supports the AFSP’s four focus areas of research, education, support and advocacy. But more importantly, the walk saves lives and brings hope.
