Your Student Life: Exam Study Tips
April 21, 2026
As we reach the end of the semester, you are probably noticing increased stress from final projects and exams.
Here are tips to make things a little more manageable:
1. Figure out the study schedule that works best for YOU.
Think about what has worked well for you in the past.
Make a study schedule:
· Do you like to plan out every hour of studying? Or do you prefer to have a loose structure for the week?
· Plan for important deadlines and commitments in advance.
o The more you prepare, the more likely it is that you will succeed (and not stress out in the process!).
2. Break it down.
A large final project or exam is daunting for everyone. But if you break them down into smaller, more reasonable tasks, suddenly it feels less overwhelming.
Pro tip: make a list of tasks to get done, as you complete the smaller tasks, cross them off one by one – doesn't that feel good?
Example task list
¨ Study 1 chapter for an exam
¨ Convert all citations into the right format
¨ Write one paragraph of a final paper
3. Take breaks.
Reward yourself for completing tasks! Even if they don’t feel large.
Small incentives will also help us stay motivated:
· Go for a short walk
· Eat your favorite snack
· Plan a hangout with your friend (you can make it a study session too!)
4. Ask for help.
If you are struggling with content material or need tutoring. You can access resources, such as office hours for your professor/TA and The Dennis Learning Center.
At The Dennis Learning Center, you can find some great online resources for study skills, time management, and you can make a one-on-one appointment to discuss your specific needs.
5. Take a deep breath.
Take care of yourself by doing things that make you feel good and move your body.
For example:
· Physical activity
· Hobbies (crafting, collecting, etc.)
· Spending time with friends
