Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

We Can Do This

We know it's discouraging to hear that there are more cases of COVID-19 on campus, but we can still beat this by doing the right things like wearing a mask, staying physically distant and hand washing.

As we do all we can to promote a safe community, it can sometimes feel like we talk a lot about all the things you can't do, but there is plenty to do on and near campus that is both fun and safe:

  • Oval Beach is open. You need to spread out, but there are even markings on the grass to show you where you can sit. The weather is supposed to be great for the next couple weeks.

  • Student Life Recreational Sports facilities are open again. They've also moved all their Group Fitness classes online so you can participate comfortably in your own space. Here's a link to more information: https://go.osu.edu/gflive2020

  • Speaking of Rec Sports, have you considered climbing? Their Outdoor Adventure Center isn't as busy as other facilities, and staff is trained to help new climbers. You just need to make a reservation. Go.osu.edu/oacreservation

  • Get your bike tuned up and check out the many local trails, the Buckeye Bike Hub is open for all your biking needs and taking appointment for tune ups. Learn more here: https://recsports.osu.edu/services-outreach/buckeye-bike-hub

  • Lincoln Tower Park is open for individual work outs while wearing your mask. Though there aren't team sports right now, you can throw a frisbee, run some sprints or do some outdoor cals.

  • Grab your mask and a friend and try a game of tennis, outdoor courts are open at the RPAC.

  • Enjoy a stroll through Chadwick Arboretum to take some time in nature. https://chadwickarboretum.osu.edu/

  • Virtual Intramurals start September 15, register starting September 8 to earn your IM Championship t-shirt in trivia and online gaming. https://recregister.osu.edu/IMLeague

  • OUAB is back. While all their events are virtual at this time, they have an extensive line-up of cooking instructional events, lectures, comedy and live music. Their popular movie nights are returning with the ability to sign in via your Ohio State account to see a film and engage with others watching at the same time. https://ouab.osu.edu

  • Service opportunities are available, even virtually. Student Life Student Activities' Pay It Forward has created a socially distant service webpage to facilitate volunteer opportunities: https://activities.osu.edu/involvement/service_outreach/pay_it_forward/socially_distant_service/

  • Columbus has a lot to offer and to ensure that health and safety is a top priority, a number of local businesses have taken the "Live Forward" pledge. Visit the Experience Columbus website (www.experiencecolumbus.com) to identify what businesses have reopened safely and to plan your next journey in the city.

  • College in Cbus http://collegeincbus.osu.edu/ offers additional resources to students for navigating Columbus. Walk, bike or run the outstanding parks throughout the city.

  • Like Art? Art makes Columbus and Columbus makes art! Check out the Greater Columbus arts calendar for virtual and in person events throughout the city: https://www.columbusmakesart.com/events

  • Student Life's Discount Ticket program (dtix.osu.edu) offers budget friendly tickets to area events and attractions.  D-Tix is up and running as of this week. Through D-Tix you can get access to attractions like the Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus Museum of Art, Grand Prix Karting and more! Pick those up 2 per BuckID at the Ohio Union Information Center. If you want to eat out or take out at a restaurant, the North Market, or Jeni's Ice Cream, register for those tickets and more online Monday or Tuesday all semester.

  • Sign up for Buckeye Nation Rewards to learn about campus and the Columbus community and get rewarded while doing so. The app features many geo-spotted walking/moving challenges to get you out and about! Sign up at https://buckeyenationrewards.com/home

  • Being Kind is always cool! Ohio State has paired up with Kind Columbus and offers programs and activities all year round. Check out the website to be notified of upcoming events and send kind kudos daily from it: https://kind.osu.edu/

  • Need more ideas of things to do while we physical distance? Check out the Student Life calendar at go.osu.edu/slcalendar. The calendar information is also available through the Ohio State app.
