August 22, 2023
Dear Student Life team,
I’m sure by now you’ve heard that Ohio State is getting a new president. The Board of Trustees has named Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. to take the reins of this extraordinary institution as of January 1, 2024. You can read more about him, and the announcement, online.
You should also have received a special message from soon-to-be President Carter in your email this afternoon. I had the great opportunity to briefly meet him and his wife, Lynda, this afternoon, and I’m certain that President Carter will be an amazing leader and bring great energy and innovation as he becomes the next president of Ohio State. I hope you all will join me in warmly welcoming him and Lynda when they join us in the Buckeye State in just a few months.
I’m also pleased that Dr. Peter Mohler has been named the interim president until Mr. Carter arrives. As you may know, Peter currently serves as executive vice president for research, innovation and knowledge here at Ohio State. Peter has been a great friend and partner since my arrival at Ohio State. We have worked closely together, first during the COVID-19 pandemic and now as President’s Cabinet colleagues. Peter is the consummate professional, student supporter and an amazing human. I’m thrilled we will be able to work more closely together under his acting presidency role
This is an exciting time at Ohio State, and our university is well positioned with the right leaders in place to meet the opportunities and challenges ahead. I look forward to the next chapter of our Scarlet and Great Buckeye story.
