October 28, 2022

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

I’ll start with a High Five to Kirby Bell in Student Conduct, who stepped in to help a student in distress. A colleague says, “Her calm and kind demeanor and unconditional willingness to help me assess the situation was very much appreciated. But also, and most importantly, her actions helped to ensure the health and well-being of the student.”

High Fives to those who helped Student Life Development and Corporate Relations with a presentation on a number of our programs to engage Progressive + Level20, including Carla Smith Jones, Sarah Sipos, Tanisha Jenkins, Aliya Beavers, Zia Ahmed, Kristen Rupert Davis, Jennifer Chilman and Jeff Pelletier. Also, one of the Dining Services delivery Rovers made an appearance. Can you High Five a robot?

Our marketing team wants to be sure Rico Garabis of Technology Services gets a High Five for supporting their tech needs. “He is always responsive, helpful and kind. He is the best!” High Five, Rico.

High Five to Counseling and Consultation Service’s Mark Sampson who was just elected to the board of the Association of Training Counseling Center Training Agencies (ACCTA).

Micky Sharma gets a High Five for being awarded a Special Presidential Commendation at this year’s Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) conference for convening and leading a national taskforce on counseling center director retention.

Jennifer Irwin gets a High Five for presenting to the University Senate yesterday about the support that the Student Advocacy Center provides. Jen delivered the information –and fielded questions – with outstanding enthusiasm, exceptional knowledge and genuine care and passion for her work. Also, big thanks to Dean Danny Glassmann for his engagement and participation.

Finally, High Five to HR’s Katie Camp and her adorable boys. Here is the story she shared with me, “We have a little red truck in the garage the kids can ride in and my oldest jumped in the car and said ‘Gotta go to work, I’ll be right back!’ and I asked, ‘Where do you work?’ and he said ‘I work at Ohio State like mommy! I gotta go to work and see my friends!’ So maybe he thinks all I do is go to work and see my friends but I’m telling myself that he just knows Ohio State is full of cool people!!” High Five to Katie’s son for being both smart and cute.

Have a Scarlet and Great Weekend, and, as always, Go Buckeyes!
