October 18, 2024

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

I hope you were able to regroup and refresh during Fall Break. High Fives to the entire Student Life team for a strong first half of the semester.

Counseling and Consultation Service hosted RECESS earlier this month. I had a great time helping encourage students to take a moment to have some fun during the semester. High Fives to the major organizers, Harry Warner, Kaylee Enscoe, Kyler Apgar and Evan Fairrow.

High Fives to Chefs Ben Flores and Ana Garcia Escalante and Student Manager Alyssa Focht for an amazing Buckeyes for Charity event in the Ohio Union Instructional Kitchen. High Fives as well to Chef Lesa Holford, Patrick Ionno and Abby Hertzfeld for their support, and to our Buckeyes for Charity team of D’Arcy Oaks, Jen Vandemark and Morgan Hammonds. The next Buckeyes for Charity event is a chili cook-off next week. Details are in this morning’s Slice.

Speaking of Slice, there was a note this morning about Dave DeAngelo of Rec Sports being appointed to a three-year term on the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors. High Five, Dave!

High Fives to Drew Stark, Joe Hast and John Cronin, for, as the Student Activities team reports, being “incredibly helpful when we visited the Student Life warehouse last Friday. They provided much needed physical support as well as a great sense of humor as we made our way through a tedious task over the course of several hours! We truly appreciate their resourcefulness and attentiveness, especially on a Friday!”

Buckeye Careers nominates their newest teammates, Paul Newell and Zach Howman, for a High Five. Colleagues say their “collaborative spirit has made a significant impact on our work in supporting student success. Their innovative ideas and willingness to take on new challenges not only elevate the work we do, but also foster a culture of teamwork and excellence.”

High Five to Adam Specht, Assistant Director in Parent and Family Relations, for doing a fantastic presentation recently to our college student affairs partners on ways they can connect with their students’ parents.

High Five to Matthew D'Oyly for helping an alum who was attending an event in the Union. She lost three wedding bands while getting out of her car. Matthew was able to help keep her calm and managed to find all the rings and the stone that had rolled away.

Don’t forget, the next Scarlet and Great Gathering is Monday, Oct. 21. We’ll cover Student Life and university updates. Just one in-person session this time, 9:30-11 a.m. in the Ohio Union Performance Hall. We’ll livestream the session in case you can’t make it. I hope to see you there.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend, and, you know what comes next....

Go Bucks!
