March 31, 2023
Dear Student Life team,
Happy High Five Friday.
Parent and Family Relations recently hosted the Legacy Dinner and Sibs, Kids and Family Day. High Fives to everyone who helped make it a success, including Ryan Lovell, Danny Glassmann, Brooke Tacsar, Lexi Simon, Yiliu Wu, Yvonne Dulaney, Molly Ranz Calhoun, James MacGregor, Lynne Deshler, Anne McDaniel (and her little one, Dexter!), Julie Schultz, Gabi Bockelman, Tonya Dawson, Jennifer Fry from the Mansfield campus, Anna Wagner and the Leadership and Community Engagement team for their assistance with the blanket-making event and the RPAC/ARC staff for helping with the Cardio Dance and rock-climbing events. I also want to give special High Fives to Noah Gilbert and Beth Ullum for their dedication and leadership in engaging our families and supporters of our students.
High Fives to Keith Glenn and Randy Kline of Facilities Operations for their fast work assisting with the cleanup and repairs at Molyet Village in Mansfield after the recent windstorm.
The NIRSA (Leaders in Collegiate Recreation) conference wrapped up this week. High Five Andre Love for being appointed to the group’s Board of Directors. High Fives as well to our team members who presented, including Andre, Micky Sharma, Matthew Altendorf, Scott Holmes, Stephanne Musser and Alice Ryan.
High Five to Ohio State Lima career development manager Rachel Richardson who helped the graduating class of Early, Middle Education and Child and Youth Studies students by having each of their resumes reviewed and completing one-on-one mock interviews with local school administrators in preparation for their job search. Over 100 mock interviews took place spanning the two-day mock interview event, which is held annually in the spring.
Also in Lima, High Fives to the Student Life Team, also known as Quad Squad (Justin F. Courtney, Amy Livchak, Chad Welker and Rachel Richardson) for coordinating the 2nd annual Spring Leadership Workshop that builds “Skills 4 Life” outside of the classroom.
I love hearing from others about the Scarlet and Greatness of our Student Life team. High Fives to Jeremy Gabis, Bridgett Keener, Thyrone Henderson, TJ Logan and the whole Facility Planning and Design team. I’ve been in a number of meetings lately where colleagues have offered completely unsolicited and incredibly genuine praise for their partnership.
High Five to you if you brought something for the Buckeye Food Alliance pantry to one of last week’s Scarlet and Great Gatherings. We collected 250 pounds of food and more than 150 personal care items. High Five, too, to Nick Fowler for his leadership of the pantry.
Housing and Residence Education (HRE) is feeling the love this week. They want to be sure I give a High Five to their Talent Acquisition Specialist Diana Berry for being a great partner and also to Leah Hall of Human Resources for providing valuable guidance and support.
Christy Blessing and Elijah Balogh get High Fives for updating the Summer Conference website. Check it out at https://sch.osu.edu/.
High Five to Alex Smith for going above and beyond to support our Housing Coordinators, Hall Directors and Assistant Hall Directors.
High Fives to Tierra Heath, Taylor Koon, Mollie Workman, Tara Nord and Jennifer Chilman for successfully planning and hosting an On-Campus Job Fair event last week. Positive feedback was received by numerous on-campus employers who participated. Also, High Five to Noelle Bartley for her help creating marketing and promotional materials to support this event.
I’m happy to endorse a suggestion I received to give a High Five the Student Life Tech Services Network team for being constant, unsung heroes who help ensure we can all stay connected virtually to do our jobs.
High Five to Molly Hall for delivering an excellent presentation for our Financial Management team that focused on building a resilient mindset. It was timely and included tangible tips for daily work!
You saw in Slice this morning that Ohio State has again been designated a Voter Friendly Campus for our efforts to inform students about voting. High Fives to Anna Wagner and Sam Evans for their work in this area.
Finally, High Five to Ben Daleiden for using some super sleuthing skills to help Buckeye Careers figure out a mysterious check that was erroneously addressed to Buckeye Careers. Ben went above and beyond to reach out to the sender and put together the various clues, ultimately solving the mystery. If you’re curious: the check actually belonged to a medical research project at Ohio State.
Have a Scarlet and Great weekend, and don’t get April Fooled tomorrow!
