March 10, 2023
Dear Student Life team,
Happy High Five Friday, also known as Spring Break Eve!
High Fives to Angie Wellman, Lade Gbolade, Seneca Crump and the entire 45th Annual African American Heritage Festival team for planning an amazing and engaging week of programming. Each event was well attended and well executed, and the group demonstrated what it means to support students and provide spaces where they feel included and where they know they belong.
Student Philanthropy Week was also highly successful. High Fives to Félix Alonso, Lizzy Ehren and Elissa Kuharich for their planning and organization, and High Fives to Anna Wagner and Kala McClure for presenting sessions.
High Five to the Student Life Disability Services’ Access Specialists and Exam Services staff for doing an amazing job providing support and information for several students in distress over the past few weeks. Their care and compassion made sure the students were connected to resources.
Chef David Wolf of Student Life Dining Services gets a High Five for winning the National Association of College and University Food Services 2023 Culinary Challenge for the Midwest region. Chef Wolf won first place and an American Culinary Federation gold medal for his yummy-looking Asian Inspired Pork-Three Ways.
Spring Break is next week, although I’ve seen many of our students already leaving campus throughout the past couple of days. Please take some time, as best you can, to refresh and recharge. Our team works so hard to support students and it’s equally important that we support ourselves and each other. In fact, in honor of Spring Break, High Five Friday will also be on a break, so watch for the next High Five message to come on March 24.
Have a Scarlet and Great weekend (and Spring Break)!
