Today's Update: Friday, July 22

July 22, 2022

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

Staff Appreciation Week begins Monday, a good opportunity to remind you how much I appreciate you. By now you know that gratitude is very important to me and is not limited to just one week.

You are the reason the Office of Student Life is Scarlet and Great. No challenge stumps you and no hurdle stops you in our quest to serve students and each other in the best possible way. I am truly honored to be a part of this amazing team.

The university has a number of activities planned for Staff Appreciation Week. You can find out about them online: hr.osu.edu/awards-events/staff-appreciation-week.

High Five to Jen Pelletier and Stacy Smith for making sure a special guest was warmly welcomed on campus this week.

High Fives to Katie Duffy, Macy Mize, Julius Mayo, Barb Kefalas, Toni Greenslade-Smith, Preston Tartt, Shivani Edwards, Mark Sampson, Moetiz Samad, Eric Faulk and Ben Haycook for their caring and compassionate support of students in dealing with a recent incident on campus.

High Five to Maureen Cahill for her support and sensitivity in handling a difficult insurance claim. She went above and beyond to ensure the best service for a grieving family. Not just on this occasion; Maureen is ALWAYS responsive, helpful and compassionate.

Student Advocacy nominates Human Resources partner Chrystal Zimmerman for a High Five, saying, “There have been many challenges in recruitment and retention. Even with a heavy workload and other work stressors, Chrystal remains attentive, positive and supportive. She is a true asset to our team!”

High Five to Bryan Albright of our Lima campus for coordinating a very successful event with the Lima City Schools. The Lima Parks Summer Playground Program brings children to campus, treating them to a number of activities and offering a look at what college life looks like in Lima. Hopefully many of them will become Buckeyes!

Buckeye Careers nominates Tessa Smith for a High Five. They are grateful for her help “onboarding two new Buckeye Careers teammates and being a supportive colleague as they transition into their new roles. She also quickly stepped up to provide additional leadership for this summer’s First Generation Envisioning Network program. Tessa cares about students and her colleagues and goes above and beyond in setting up others for success.”

High Five to Roger Perkey at the Student Wellness Center for serving on a panel discussion hosted by the Women’s Place about resources available to students and other community members in this post-Roe world. He did a great job handling a very difficult subject that has a LOT of passion on all sides with professionalism and knowledge that represented SWC and Student Life very well!

And last but not least, High Five to Seth Rhodes from the marketing team for helping to make sure we distributed several important email messages this week (including this one!).

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend!
