July 1, 2022

Dear Student Life team;

Happy High Five Friday.

I’ll start with High Fives to those who helped coordinate our support sessions earlier this week, including Harry Warner, Shawnte’ Elbert, Mark Arthur, Wes Larkin, Angie Wellman, Shina Drummond, Kailee Missler and Dave Isaacs, plus Helka Casey from the Employee Assistance Program. A special High Five to all who joined in and participated, and for being so supportive of others during and after the session.

Chuck Winchell, Chris Dutton, Cody Radivoyevitch and Braeden Seaholm get High Fives for completing the Norton House smoke head and base replacement project. The team’s efficiency in completing daily fire alarm testing allowed them to complete this additional, important pilot project this summer. This will help reduce the number of non-Life Safety alarms activated through the building fire alarm system.

The Support Center nominates Mike Loomis, Bert Stebens and Helios Yu for High Fives for their quick response to a recent State of Ohio Computing Center outage. Just as the Support Center was about to pick up the phone to report the issue, the SLTS Networking Team contacted them first to let them know about an issue with the firewall.  High Fives for a proactive approach and communications.

High Five to Tracy Stuck for leading the Buckeye Bus tour of the Dayton area this week. High Fives as well to the people behind the scenes who assisted: Candyce Williams, Dave Isaacs, Kailee Missler, Jen Cottrell, Patrick Edwards, Travis Barnhart, Dave DeAngelo, Rob Jech, Angie Wellman, Brittany Crall, Adrienne Gladish and the loading dock staff, Kathie Serif, Alex Jimenez and John Cronin.  Also, High Fives to Karen Narwicz, Danny Glassman and Tanisha Jenkins for representing Student Life on the bus, which also included a fantastic group of students. If you’d like to see pictures, visit our Student Life Facebook page State Tour photo album. And give the page a Like while you are there.

High Five to Leah Wheeler of Housing and Residence Education for securing two grants for Early Arrival Programs. The Early Arrival/Pre-Enrollment Program Committee is providing $4,400 to reduce the cost to students of the R-LEAD program, an early leadership-based engagement program for incoming first year students, and $7,000 to help offset the cost of the annual Hoot Fest for arriving OWLs.

High Five to Social/Digital Communications Coordinator Kailee Missler for creating a Student Life social media strategy plan and an accompanying best practices guide for our practitioners to use.

High Fives to the two Rec Sports YP4H Walking Challenge teams. “We Will Rec You!” and “We Will Rec You Too!” combined to log 8,573,030 steps during the challenge. High Fives to Matthew Altendorf, Matthew Ferdinand, Matt Hartman, Ali Hinkle, Phil Julson, Jenny Kuzmic, Ashley Lowe (spouse), Chad Lowe, Pete Miller, Stephanne Musser, JR Rathjens, Ali Talcott, Krista Talstein, Zach Talstein, Christine Thompson and Matt Thompson (spouse).

While We Will Rec You placed 9th overall, a High Five for perseverance goes to the Marketing and Communications team. With only three members (most of the top teams had the maximum of 10), Stephanie Lingofelter, Seth Rhodes and Dave Isaacs, Marcomm Hikers completed the challenge, and finished at number 622.

I’ll be on vacation next week, so, modeling good behavior, I’m going to put High Fives on hiatus for the week. Gratitude doesn’t take a vacation, however, so, unless you, too, are taking time off, I challenge you to send a note to a deserving colleague giving them a High Five. Copy me, and when I get back, I’ll put some of them in a future High Five Friday.

Have a Scarlet and Great, and safe, Fourth of July weekend.
