Today's Update: Friday, January 26, 2024

January 26, 2024

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

High Five to you if you’ve filled out the Student Life Engagement Survey. I explained why it’s important in a Today’s Update earlier this month and I really hope you will take a few minutes (less than 10) to provide your feedback. You will find the survey at go.osu.edu/SLstaffsurvey.

#BuckeyeLove activities are coming soon, and Student Life team members have already packed Nike gear that will be given away to surprise students as a random act of kindness. High Fives to Tracy Stuck, Jeremy Gabis, Rob Lyons, Aubrie Smith, Rob Halliburton, Drew Stark, Joe Hast, John Cronin, Hal Tedrow, Thyrone Henderson, Joel Sedziol, Jenn Miller, Kim Traverse, Bridgett Keener, Sam Bradway and Allan Leary.

Panhellenic recruitment is always an exciting, and busy, time of year. This year saw the Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) community welcome 1,027 new members. High Fives to those who helped, including Kirby Bell, Rachel DeMooy, Tanisha Jenkins, Ryan Lovell, Christy Muhoberac, Natalie Hornback, Akua Nelson, Elise Nelson, Alexander Nichols, Meagen Rinard, Kristen Rupert Davis, Julie Schnell, Cassie Smith, Kelly Smith, Tracy Stuck, Rochelle Toth, Beth Ullum, Kristen Van Gundy, Julie Wagner and Liz Westrick.

High Fives as well to a number of people who accommodated special requests during recruitment and made the Ohio Union feel like home for the past few weeks, including Lori Green, Colleen Lins, Chris Nesler, Julie Wagner and the entire Ohio Union Events and Catering staff.

But wait, there’s more! High Five to Gabi Nuñez for coordinating her first primary recruitment at Ohio State and for setting multiple records including the highest retention of students throughout recruitment since 2006. And High Five to Will Cangialosi for his leadership and direction of the Panhellenic Association (PHA) Recruitment Guides who successfully counseled nearly 1,300 potential new members throughout recruitment. High Five to all the dedicated SFL staff who spent many late nights and weekends at the Ohio Union to make recruitment a huge success!

High Fives to John Cronin, Joe Hast, George Owusu and Drew Stark for helping Student Advocacy assist in the return of a student’s belongings.

Cameron Ziegler on the Ohio Union’s Environmental Services team and Ohio Union student Building Managers Holden Klym and Siddharth Tiwari get High Fives for their high-flying perseverance in helping escort a wayward bird back outside. Feel free to come up with any other bird puns you like.

High Five to Emily Gerrick of Human Resources. She’s been helping find talent for an open position in Dining Services, and one of the candidates reported that Emily did a wonderful job and made him feel like “not just another number.” He also said, “Emily rocks!” The Dining managers agree.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend!
