Dear Student Life team,
Happy High Five Friday and congratulations to all the summer graduates who will earn their degrees on Sunday!
First of all: a BIG shout out to the Ohio State Fair, which I got to visit for the very first time this week! I was there for the Dean’s Charity Steer Show Tuesday, and yesterday I joined a group from Student Life marching in the State Fair parade. High Five to Tracy Stuck for organizing our group in the parade, and Daren Lehman for assisting with the vehicle and technology. High Fives to the team members who walked the (very hot!) parade route: Kim Traverse, Josh Bodnar, Stacey Renker, Morgan Hammond, Candyce Williams (who also handled all the Workday orders for the event), Karen Narwicz, Roger Perkey, Tonya Dawson, Estrella Jacobsen, Cherrelle Rowser, Molly Ferguson, Devon Stith, Kailee Missler and Woody, Candyce’s super-cute puppy. Special thanks to Dean Cathann Kress from the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences for walking with our Student Life Kindness Crew.
Counseling and Consultation Service hosted a Community Provider Day late last month for community mental health providers to learn about the mental health services we offer at Ohio State and identify was we can collectively support Ohio State students as best as possible. High Fives to everyone involved including Jennifer Lang, Amy Young, Mandie Kollman, Shawn Lucas, Morgan Blumenfeld, Jess Riley, Stephanie Fowler, Shawn Levstek, Claire Simon, Nick Fowler, Kim Pachell, Dr. Sheila Westendorf, Caroline Omolesky, Ryan Wilhelm, Stanley Pierre, Hannah Worley, Mackenzie Hogan and Rachel DeMooy.
Speaking of Counseling and Consultation Service, I am Scarlet and Grateful to have had the chance to connect with you all this morning at the Ohio Union (and thank you for the yummy muffin!) The team was there for an all-day training session on advancing ways to support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) students. I hope you had a phenomenal day of learning and togetherness!
High Fives to Hunter Hartwig and Kelly Smith for presenting at this week’s Ohio Anti-Hazing Summit at Bowling Green. High Fives also go to the Sorority and Fraternity Life and Student Conduct teams who attended the summit. And High Five to Jen Pelletier for hosting more than 18 anti-hazing training sessions on the Columbus campus for advisors and student leaders.
Every year, we partner with Goodwill to collect items that students moving out of residence halls might otherwise throw away. During May’s Move-Out, more than 45,000 pounds were diverted from the landfill, a 16% increase over last year. High Five to Tom Reeves for running the program, and High Fives to Housing and Residence Education, Environmental Services and Maintenance for their hard work making it a success.
High Five to Nick Pangio, who runs Camp Recky in Rec Sports. A staff member whose child attended camp there this summer said, "Nick makes every kid feel so welcome and the kids tell me everyone loves ‘Mr. Coconut.’”
Have a Scarlet and Gray weekend!
