August 2, 2024

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

I’ll start with a High Five to the Housing and Residence Education team. As of last night, they’ve made housing assignments for every student contracted to live in university housing. It’s an incredible accomplishment through an unusually complicated process this year.

One of the highlights of every summer is the Buckeye Bus tour. It was a huge success again this year with stops including the Patterson Fruit Farm, the Lake County Fair and a service project for Children’s Hunger Alliance in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ arena.  Special High Fives to Tracy Stuck and Isabel Biasella who coordinated the Buckeye Bus. High Fives to everyone who helped get the bus on the road, including Candyce Williams, Stacy Smith, Kellie Uhrig, Hannah Warner, Dave Wiseley, Shina Drummond, Anita McCoy, Anne McDaniel, Adrienne Gladish, Rachel Conners, Travis Barnhart, Jen Vandemark, Dave Isaacs, Dave DeAngelo, John Cronin, Daren Lehman, Jeremy Gabis, Aubrie Smith, Joe Hast and Drew Stark. High Fives as well to the students who helped a great deal including Matthew Swearingen, Madison Mason, Khushi Pabboju and Ivy Qian. You can also watch video highlights from the tour

High Fives to Beth Ullum, Adam Specht and Noah Gilbert of Parent and Family Relations for launching registration for our Buckeye Football and Family Tailgate. We already have more than 4,000 registered for this year's event, which is nearly double last year's total!

I have another Scarlet and Great example of one department helping out another. Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement offers a High Five to their Ohio Union neighbors at BuckID for “supporting our efforts and cross promoting while students are getting their BuckIDs by reminding students to also stop by our office to grab their personal safety devices.”

High Fives to Meagen Rinard and Madi Barnes for receiving the Highly Established Action Plan Seal, the highest-level award, for the ALL IN 2024 Action Plan. Their nonpartisan campus democratic engagement action plan for OSU Votes and The Ohio State University demonstrates on a national scale our efforts toward nonpartisan civic engagement and voter participation.

The Sorority and Fraternity Life team gets a High Five for receiving a number of awards and recognitions from the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and the Association of Fraternity Leadership & Values (AFLV).  A special High Five goes to Hunter Hartwig for receiving the 2024 NIC Outstanding Advisor Award of Distinction.

High Five to Laura Lewis of the Suicide Prevention Program for the tremendous passion, expertise and care that she recently showed to a student who was interested in learning more about suicide prevention efforts across campus.

The Great Randini (aka J-Randall Hicks) gets a High Five for offering his time and talent for a magic show in the Ohio Union. High Five as well to Estrella Jacobsen for “popping up” and helping with the show. It was a fun opportunity for staff to connect.

Have a Scarlet and Great Weekend.
