February 27, 2023

Dear Partners in Student Success:

I hope your semester is going well and that the unusually sunny weather is keeping your spirits high. As we approach the midpoint of the semester, below are a few updates and bits of information that I hope you find helpful:

In this edition

  • STEP recruitment
  • SEEDs applications
  • Save a Life
  • Buck-I-SERV
  • Kudos
  • Student employment

Second-year Transformational Experience Program

The Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP) is currently recruiting first-year students to join the program for the 2023-2024 academic year. STEP is a great opportunity for students to build community, form a relationship with a mentor and pursue a transformational project. If you work with first-year students, please encourage them to indicate their interest in STEP during the housing reselection process this month. Students can learn more about the program by attending an upcoming information session. For questions, please contact step@osu.edu.

Student Experience and Engagement Delegates

The Student Experience and Engagement Delegates (SEEDs) program is an opportunity for students from across the university to drive change, share feedback and generate ideas to help students engage, learn and thrive. Led by Dr. Danny Glassmann, Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Support, the program serves as a way for the university to gather feedback and ideas directly from students. SEEDs are students from any program, level, leadership experience or campus who are interested in contributing their ideas for the best Ohio State possible. Applications are now open for the 2023-2024 cohort.

Save a Life

Student Life Risk and Emergency Management has produced a new CPR and AED Education video. This new resource is available to the campus community and helps students, staff and faculty to recognize the signs of cardiac arrest, learn how to perform hands-only CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Buck-I-SERV

Buck-I-SERV is currently seeking trip advisors for spring and summer break domestic trips. Buck-I-SERV provides participants with week-long, substance free service trips focused on social change and offers challenging and fun opportunities to lead and learn through direct service experiences. Spring trips will travel from March 11-18, 2023, and summer trips will travel from May 6-13, 2023. Advisors can be faculty, staff, graduate students or professional students. Trip advisors will be trained to provide support and mentorship to trip participants and leaders. Contact Lucy Hennon.16 if interested. More information is online.

Kudos

I hope you enjoyed this month’s Buckeye Love events. To keep the kindness momentum going, go to kind.osu.edu and send kudos to a colleague. It’s a great way to express appreciation and gratitude.

Student Employment

Students seek employment for a variety of reasons. In the 2022 Student Life Survey, the most commonly reported reasons were to pay for food, rent or other basic needs, to have extra spending money for activities or purchases outside basic needs, and to pay for tuition, university fees or student loans. Buckeye Careers will host the On-Campus Job Fair on Thursday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Curl Hall. If you have open student positions, you might want to consider participating.

As always, thank you for your partnership and support of Ohio State students.
