In a Nutshell: April 15, 2024

April 15, 2024

Dear Partners in Student Success:

We’re into the home stretch of the semester with all of us making that final push to close out the academic year on a positive note. The countdown is underway!

Thank you for your ongoing support of Ohio State students, especially in these next few, often challenging, weeks. Here are a few updates and bits of information I hope you find helpful.

  • Anti-Hazing

  • Seal of Prevention

  • Coping with Current Events

  • Graduation Survey

  • Esports Camp

  • Medication Disposal Day

Anti-Hazing
Ohio State is hosting the Ohio Anti-Hazing Summit on Tuesday, August 6. The event will feature college professionals from around the state, including practitioners for fraternities, sororities, student groups and clubs, athletic coaches, volunteers, advisors and university conduct staff. This summit will focus on prevention education, innovative resources, best practices and strategies to eliminate hazing that has plagued college campuses nationwide. Registration for the summit will open in May. More information is available online at go.osu.edu/OhioAntiHazingSummit.

Seal of Prevention
Ohio State has earned the 2023 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention. The honor represents the highest standard for online prevention education and recognizes institutions making a measurable impact across critical areas including sexual assault prevention, alcohol and drug misuse, mental health and inclusion. It highlights the work of the Student Wellness Center, including the Collegiate Recovery Community, and other entities around the university.

Coping with Current Events
Current events at the local, regional, national and global level have an undeniable impact on mental health. Students often come to Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS) with concerns related to traumatic events that leave individuals with varied emotional experiences. CCS has resources to help students, individually or in groups.

Graduation Survey
This semester’s Graduation Survey is now open. An email has been sent to all students graduating this semester (undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and professional). This survey, conducted by the Center for the Study of Student Life, encourages students to share valuable information regarding academic coursework, career services, debt and other areas important to the success of students. The valuable feedback helps inform decision-making throughout the university and will enhance the student experience for future Buckeyes. Please encourage graduating students you know to participate.

Esports Camp
Student Life Rec Sports is holding an Esports summer camp for children ages 10-12. Through gaming and sports recreation, campers will have the opportunity to explore the impact of technology on society, participate in problem-solving activities and experience a preview of life in a collegiate Esports program. Campers will be taught by experienced collegiate Esports student-athletes and staff, learn about video broadcasting, healthy gaming habits, equipment maintenance, virtual reality and team leadership. More information about the Esports summer camp is online.

Medication Disposal Day
Medication Disposal Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of any expired or unused over-the-counter or prescription medications, while also educating about proper use and potential outcomes of misuse of medications. All Ohio State students, faculty and staff are welcomed and encouraged to participate on April 24 and 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at South Campus near Park-Stradley and Siebert Hall and at North Campus near Scott House Residential Area. More information is available at go.osu.edu/MedicationDisposalDay

Once again, thank you so much for the countless ways you contribute to making Ohio State such a phenomenal institution. Have a fantastic summer.
