Today's Update: Wednesday, July 1

Dear Student Life Team, 

Summer is officially here and so is another Wellness Wednesday! We talk a lot about holistic well-being and how each dimension of wellness works together to help you live a happier and healthier life. As we head toward the long weekend, I encourage you to focus on your wellness.

I think the most important thing all of us can do is to recharge. There isn’t much time left before students begin arriving for fall semester, and that means many of us are going to be even busier getting ready for them. The three-day weekend gives us a chance to take a breath, regroup and rejuvenate.

Last week I talked about digital well-being ( and how it's important to take a tech break. This weekend, I hope you can disconnect from screens, especially Zoom screens, to rest your eyes and your brain.

Follow the advice you’ve heard since you were little. Instead of a computer screen, use sunscreen. Stay hydrated, especially with hot weather upon us. Pace yourself with outdoor activities, especially with temperatures predicted to be above 90 degrees. My nephews roll their eyes whenever my sister or I say things like this, but it’s good advice for a reason.

You might also consider signing up to participate in My Pelotonia. I have not yet experienced Pelotonia, but, like many things in 2020, I understand it will look different than in year’s past. This year you get to choose your own activity and fundraising goal. There are no fundraising commitments and no registration fees, but there is community if you chose to participate.
