Today's Update: Wednesday, August 26

August 26, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, I hope by now you’ve had time to digest the Student Life structural changes that will soon be put in place. If you want a refresher, there is an outline online:

There are many elements to it, but I thought Wellness Wednesday would be a good time to focus on one aspect of our approach that is especially important to me: staff wellness.

You’ve seen that the new structure will align our work around six core areas of focus. One is Wellness and Health, which encompasses a number of our departments and their support for students. This area will lead all aspects of student health and wellness, which is and will continue to be extremely important.

It’s also important that we put an emphasis on the wellness of our Student Life team. I heard that subject raised in a number of the listening sessions, and the need has only increased as we work our way through this pandemic. As we focus on student wellness, we also need to pay attention to team wellness. That will be part of the charge to the Associate Vice President for Well-Being and Health when that person is identified and on the job.

It’s too early to talk about details, and we have a number of steps to take before we will be in a position to identify or implement specific plans and programs. Still, on this Wellness Wednesday, I want you to know that supporting our Scarlet and Great team is important to me.

Don’t forget; Friday is our next all-staff team meeting from 3-3:30 p.m. I’ll send the Zoom information in my update tomorrow.
