Today's Update: Tuesday, September 1

September 1, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, What’s your why? It’s a question we’re hearing frequently.

Protecting the health and safety of the Buckeye community involves all of us. There are things we must do: wear a mask, stay physically distant and wash our hands. We do these as much for others as we do for ourselves.

This is true for all of us. Yet we each have different reasons for why we do these things. Perhaps it’s out of civic responsibility. Perhaps it’s to protect a loved one who is at risk. Whatever your motivations, they are personal and powerful.

Each and every one of us has a role to play, and every action matters. Put together, person by person and action by action, we can reduce the spread of COVID-19.

That concept is at the heart of a new Ohio State public health campaign, and the theme is “What’s your why?” It acknowledges what we can do Together as Buckeyes, highlighting all the reasons we do what we do. That’s where our strength comes from.

I can tell you my why. I wear my mask every day and everywhere because I love Ohio State: who we are and what we stand for. Our community. Our resilience. Our commitment to be extraordinary.

I’d like to hear yours. Feel free to send me a note with your “why” so I can share them with the rest of the team (and if you’d prefer I not share, that’s fine – I'd still like to hear from you!). Combined, together as Buckeyes, we are Scarlet and Great.
