Today's Update: Tuesday, March 23
March 23, 2021
Dear Student Life Team, With all of the vaccination news and exciting progress we have had over the past few weeks, we don’t tend to talk as much about testing anymore. However, it remains one of our most effective tools in fighting the spread of the virus in our campus communities.
That is why I am so pleased that the university has expanded COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic faculty and staff. You may have read about this in President Johnson’s Reflections of a first-year Buckeye message last week.
This is for those who are regularly working on Ohio State’s campuses. Many of our front-line team members are already being tested, so this expansion will apply to those who have not been a part of that effort and are now routinely on our campuses.
It is important to note that this testing option is not meant for intermittent, mid-quarantine or symptomatic testing. We want to be sure that anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to the virus uses an alternative testing option like the one at the fairgrounds. For symptomatic testing information, you can contact your local primary care provider or call the Ohio State University COVID Call Center at 614-293-4000 for a health assessment and direction. More information is available on the Symptomatic Testing page.
The university was able to offer this option because of increased capacity at the Applied Microbiology Services Laboratory (AMSL). Asymptomatic team members can schedule a weekly testing appointment at the Jesse Owens North Recreation Center via MyChart.
Testing takes place via saliva sample, and the test process takes approximately 10 to 30 minutes to complete. Appointments will be available until capacity is met. You can schedule as far as six weeks in advance. You don’t have to self-quarantine while waiting for the results.
This new option is another Scarlet and Great way to get critical health information that can contribute to the health and safety of our communities and your own family.
