Today's Update: Tuesday, July 28

July 28, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, This is Staff Appreciation Week, another great opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate you and all that you do. Our Student Life team is the Scarlet and Greatest, and I am honored to serve with you every day. As I’ve said before, our world has been turned upside down, but each and every one of you has confronted our new reality with an open mind, flexibility and a willingness to consider new ideas and approaches. It’s a struggle, but there is no one I’d rather face these challenges with than the Ohio State Student Life team.

You’ve probably seen the email from Human Resources about university-wide observances of Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week. While COVID-19 will keep us from having in-person experiences this year (no Student Life Summer Celebration, which I have heard so many fantastic things about!), there are a number of virtual events and activities available. They include virtual tours of university landmarks, special promotions, discounts and other special offerings for Ohio State staff.

I also want to make sure you know about a Student Life initiative, “Kindness at Ohio State.” They’ve just set up a website kind.osu.edu/. There is an Ohio State Kindness Committee, chaired by Student Life Assistant Vice President Tracy Stuck, that plans kindness events, shares random acts of kindness and encourages all Buckeyes to be kind.

One of their projects is “Give Kudos,” a section of their website that gives you the opportunity to thank a colleague. They have pages of designed templates that you can use, sending them either just to the person who deserves the kudos or allowing your message to be shared on the Kindness at Ohio State website and Student Life social media.

I appreciate you so much, and “Give Kudos” gives you the chance to express your appreciation for others. It’s a wonderful way to highlight our Scarlet and Greatness.
