Today's Update: Tuesday, July 20

July 20, 2021

Dear Student Life Team, Move-In begins in less than a month.

Seems hard to believe, but we are very close to welcoming students back to campus and back to many of the traditions that make Ohio State such a special place.

One of those traditions is Move-In, as we roll out the scarlet carpet to welcome students and their families to the residence halls. This year will be a “next normal” blend of procedures we’ve used in both the recent and not-so-recent past.

The most important tradition, and where we need your help, is making this “first impression” experience truly memorable for our new and returning Buckeyes.

You can sign up to be a part of this important effort online:

The tasks are familiar to anyone who has participated in the last few Move-Ins. We need you to greet students and their families, answer questions and generally make sure the check-in process goes as smoothly as possible. You will not be handling the students’ belongings. Shifts will be less than four hours long.

Move-In isn’t going to be the one-day extravaganza that we’ve done in year’s past. As we’ve done since the pandemic began, we are spreading out the process. Move-In will take place over six days, beginning on Monday, August 16, and ending on Saturday, August 21. Welcome Week activities gear up on Sunday, and classes begin on Tuesday, August 24.

We are again asking students to sign up for a specific day and time to avoid large numbers moving in at any given time. The scheduling system opens on August 1.

OWLs (Ohio State Welcome Leaders) are back this year, although they will not be unloading vehicles as they used to do. Those students, along with others from a number of fraternities and sororities, student organizations and other groups, will be working alongside our team members to make people feel welcome.

This will be an important year at Ohio State as we return to campus and return to the iconic Buckeye Experience. Thanks for your help getting the semester off to a Scarlet and Great start.

We also need help with a special celebration for the class of 2020. It will be held in Ohio Stadium on Saturday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m. Help is needed with the graduate assembly in the RPAC, the class processional and to assist graduates in the stadium. This group missed out on a traditional Commencement because of the pandemic, so the celebration will be especially meaningful for them. You can sign up online.
