Today's Update: Tuesday, April 28

April 28, 2020

Dear Student Life Team,

The State of Ohio is preparing to gradually reopen. Although Gov. DeWine hasn’t yet outlined specific guidance for higher education, he has set forth the outline of how that process will start across the state.

There will definitely be a “new normal.” The Governor has made it clear that masks are going to be part of our lives for some time come, saying wearing face covering will be a “strong recommendation” going forward. And physical distancing isn’t going away any time soon.

The state is calling it “Responsible Restart Ohio” and you can read about it and the protocols the state is recommending on their website:

For us, nothing is changing immediately. If you are not currently working on campus, you’ll hear from your supervisor when you are expected to report to campus. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to ask. I am very grateful to everyone who continues to work every day on campus and via telework.

In the meantime, the university has also announced updates to some of our leave protocols. The changes particularly relate to the Families First Act and to vacation extensions. You can find all the latest information on leave policies on the Human Resources website at

The university, and a group in Student Life, are working to prepare for the next steps. Everyone’s health and safety are the top priorities, and our mission is to prepare for our new normal in a measured, responsible way. I will keep you updated as those plans are developed.

Together, we will stay Scarlet and Great!
