Today's Update: Thursday, October 29
October 29, 2020
Dear Student Life Team, O-H!
We have another football game this weekend as the Buckeyes play at Penn State Saturday night. As a fan, I’m excited. As a Student Life VP, we need to keep our students safe and healthy.
There is a fine line we must navigate between allowing our students to have a game day experience while at the same time encouraging them to take the steps necessary to prevent the spread of COVID.
While there were some students who did not live up to their responsibilities last weekend, I saw many people wearing masks, staying physically distant and embracing the idea that “Every Game is a Home Game.”
This weekend, we are ramping up our efforts to provide spaces for students to safely engage in activities and watch the game on campus. The game broadcast will be on every TV that gets the signal in all our Student Life locations, including the Ohio Union, rec centers, dining locations and residence halls.
The Athletics department has provided some sweet giveaway items, including game worn jerseys and game used footballs that will be used as incentives for students. There will be programming in each of the residence halls beginning as early as noon, and Dining Services will have tailgate food available in their locations. Ambassadors (students and team members) will be out and about giving away “surprise and delight” items such as pre-packaged food and swag.
You can also look for some fun messages on the Tom W. Davis Tower screen.
I am confident we can create a Scarlet and Gray game day atmosphere that will allow students to engage with each other and the game while, at the same time, staying safe.
