Today's Update: Thursday, March 19

March 19, 2020

Dear Student Life Team:

As we continue with the steps to protect the health and safety of our community, supporting and meeting the needs of our students remains our top priority. With the move-out process heading into the final days, we can now devote more energy to other aspects of that support.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion sent out a Qualtrics Survey to its undergraduate scholars and student affiliates to assess their immediate needs related to areas such as housing, food, employment, virtual learning, access to technology and access to health care. 275 students responded between Friday, March 13 and Monday, March 16.

While this survey was conducted with a specific group of students and not the student body in general, I think it is helpful for a broad understanding of what topics are of most interest.

In general, students are looking for more information about food pantries, emergency grants/financial support, student employment and academic support for the online learning environment. Our Student Life Strategic Communications team is working to get out the word to students about services and programs available to them.

  • The Student Life website now includes a We Are Here For You page. Updated frequently, it includes information about the food pantry and emergency grants, as well as how to access services such as Student Health Services and Counseling and Consultation Service. New information will be added as it is available.

  • Information about the Buckeye Food Alliance food pantry and emergency grants through Student Life Student Advocacy are being disseminated on social media, through the Discover App and other channels.

  • A separate section of the Student Life website is devoted to an FAQ page, where a Student Support section is in progress.

  • Content is being created to include in both the Discover App and the Ohio State: Wellness app, as well as the Student Life Student Wellness Center’s COVID-19 updates page. The We Are Here For You page is being adapted into an article that can be shared on those platforms, as well. Lastly, there is an article in the Discover app promoting the emergency grant, with a request that it be placed at the top of the content list.

I know it seems each day brings something new, and I can’t tell you all how much I continue to appreciate all your efforts. You truly are Scarlet and Great.
