Today's Update: Thursday, January 21
January 21, 2021
Dear Student Life Team, You have probably seen, in President Johnson’s messages and in onCampus, that the university is continuing to offer flexible work arrangements, including remote work options, through spring semester.
For our team in Student Life, this means continuing what we did in the fall. If you worked remotely last semester, you will likely be doing the same this semester. If you were on an alternating schedule before, you are probably going to be on one now.
For example, next week the Ohio Union is going back to their scarlet and gray work schedule to limit the number of people working at one time in any given office area.
This obviously presents special “opportunities” for staff in Student Life. Our primary mission is to support students, and that can’t always be done remotely. That means some people will still need to be on campus, particularly those in student-facing departments and those whose work must be done on-campus like dining, residence life and environmental services.
And even those who are working mainly from home may need to be on-campus for special projects such as helping with Move-In. We must stay flexible and creative.
Please work with your supervisor to determine the best plan to balance the need to de-densify campus as much as possible with the need to support our student population, particularly those who require in-person support.
It is imperative that we do all we can to minimize the spread of COVID-19. De-densifying campus is one aspect of this, as is continuing the Safe and Healthy Buckeyes protocols and wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, staying home if you are sick or have symptoms and adhering to other guidelines to stay safe at work and at home. Feel free to reach out to your HR Consultant if you have concerns or need a workplace accommodation.
We did well last semester, and I’m confident we can have success this spring. We just need to stay Scarlet and Great.
