Today's Update: Thursday, April 15
April 15, 2021
Dear Student Life Team, I want to make sure you know that there are still vaccine appointments available at the Schottenstein Center this week for both staff and students. If you haven’t scheduled your vaccine yet, I highly encourage you to do so. Special thanks to Wexner Medical Center and the Athletics team for making it so easy!
Those vaccinations take us closer to being able to returning to our traditions, and of all those steps, right now I am most excited about having an in-person Commencement. (The Spring Game in the ‘Shoe is high on my list, too.)
You can read about the details online.
We haven’t had an in-person Commencement in the time I’ve been here, but I know Student Life has been integral in helping out in the past, and it’s time for us to step up again.
As you know, there are two sessions, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. We will need people to help with each of them.
The duties are relatively similar to what Student Life has done in the past, and the idea is to help all attendees have a Scarlet and Great experience.
Diplomas will be handed out by each college, as students enter the Stadium. They’ll also get a plastic bag of information and a Commencement program. Part of our role will be to help the colleges hand out the material. Thirty gates will be open, and we will need to help staff each of them.
We will need Student Life team members to cover the seating sections inside the ‘Shoe during each of the ceremonies. The role includes greeting people, addressing issues as they arise and being ready to request medical attention, if needed. The stadium ushers will help to get the graduates and their families to their assigned seats.
Here is when help is needed: before both ceremonies (9:30-11 a.m. and 1:30-3 p.m.) and during each ceremony (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3-4:30 p.m.)
You can work any or all parts of the day, and as a bonus, anyone who helps the entirety of both ceremonies gets a free boxed lunch.
If you can help on any or all shifts, contact Daren Lehman, email@example.com or 614-247-8191.
Also, don’t forget to sign up to help with Move-Out: go.osu.edu/moveouthelp.
Of course, all the safe and healthy guidelines; mask wearing, physical distancing, a green check mark on the health reporting function of the Ohio State app, etc. will be followed for all these activities.
There are a number of opportunities to help our students and their families this spring. I am Scarlet and Grateful for your willingness to help out. It’s just another way we can provide the extraordinary student experience.
