Today's Update: Monday, November 30

November 30, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, Tomorrow is #Giving Tuesday.

It is a national effort created in 2012 and based on a simple idea—encouraging people to do good. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

Ohio State’s focus is on the student emergency funds administered by the Student Life Student Advocacy Center. The message is that Together as Buckeyes, we can make the incredible happen, by providing student emergency support to lift up our students who are struggling with loss of income, housing issues and food insecurity.

The funds help students who are financially impacted by the pandemic pay rent, stock their fridge or buy a book for their class. Donations have helped keep students engaged in the classroom. They have helped students to pay their bills and keep the lights on.

When you combine the Student Life funds, institutional dollars and federal CARES Act money, we’ve been able to help more than 17,500 students. That is a huge impact, and one we hope to expand through Giving Tuesday gifts. The generosity of our donors has changed lives.

I’ve recorded some videos and will be sharing them on social media. You can learn more online:

I am grateful for the support that helps keep our students Scarlet and Great.
