Today's Update: Monday, March 23

March 23, 2020

Dear Student Life Team:

We’ve entered a new phase of our strange new world today. Spring break is over, and spring semester is officially underway, with classes resuming online. While many of our students are comfortable in a virtual setting, this is still uncharted territory for them. Certainly, some may have experience taking classes this way, but by no means all of them. And this wasn’t what any of them expected when they made the decision to come to Ohio State.

A note of encouragement to the students you deal with regularly might be in order. You and I aren’t the only ones having to adjust to a whole new reality. They could use your support right now.

On another note, I hope you saw the message from President Drake over the weekend declaring a “State of Emergency” for Ohio State. He noted that this declaration “is essential to give the university flexibility in making a variety of financial decisions over an extended period if necessary. The emergency declaration will be revisited on a weekly basis as circumstances evolve.”

Please know that university and Student Life leadership are carefully reviewing the policies and how this will aid in our response to COVID-19. It should help clarify our work over the next few weeks.

If you have any questions, feel free to share them with your supervisor and unit directors. We will work to get answers as they are available.

Thank you for your continued dedication and flexibility in these difficult times. You remain Scarlet and Great.
