Today's Update: Friday, October 30

October 30, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, Happy Halloween! It’s downright scary how Scarlet and Great our Student Life team is, and I hope that you a treating yourself to some self-care (and maybe a candy bar or two) this weekend.

High Five to Alyssa (AJ) Johnson, Anna Wagner and OSU Votes for putting together a comprehensive set of resources to ensure our students are educated about their options to vote, including our students in quarantine and isolation housing. They also organized rides, including on CABS buses, for students to go vote at the Board of Elections on Morse Road.

I’m giving High Fives to everyone involved in our game day planning and implementation, both last weekend, and for tomorrow’s game. They have done a Scarlet and Great job supporting students in enjoying the game in safe and healthy environments.

Kate Butler of Sorority and Fraternity Life gets a High Five for being elected to a position on the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors’ Nominations and Elections committee.

A High Five goes to our entire university for placing on the Campus Pride “Best of the Best” listing of the “Best Colleges for LGBTQ Students.” As you saw in Slice this morning, we are one of just 40 campuses nationwide to receive the honor. Special mention High Five to the team at the Student Life Multicultural Center for all their hard, and successful, work.

I’m obviously not the only one congratulating team members for extraordinary effort, and I want to call your attention to a new initiative in Res Life. They recently started IE (Inclusive Excellence) Spotlight, an effort to recognize Residence Life staff members for what they are doing related to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice work. You can nominate someone at this link: IE Spotlight Recommendation. High Fives to Res Life’s Associate Director of Inclusive Excellence Moe Samad and others for this Scarlet and Great recognition of their team members.

I am continuing to schedule check-in sessions with team members each week, and I’d love to talk to you. Next week’s session is Wednesday, November 4, at 11:30 a.m., and you can sign up online:

Let’s keep these Scarlet and Great conversations going. Have a great weekend, all.
