Today's Update: Friday, November 20

November 20, 2020

Dear Student Life Team,

This is BuckeyeThon weekend. The Dance Marathon is tomorrow, and while there are some significant differences this year, the most important element, raising funds and awareness for kids fighting cancer and other pediatric illnesses at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, is still, Now More Than Ever, the mission.

This year the Dance Marathon is all virtual. It’s also in November instead of February, a change that was in place long before COVID. The idea is to increase student engagement by cutting down on the time between fall registration and a spring marathon. Their fundraising goal this year is $2 million For The Kids.

I want to encourage you to support this Scarlet and Great effort. You can make a donation to any of the 3,833 registered team members (see their website at buckeyethon.osu.edu, or bid on items in their silent auction at go.osu.edu/btauction

In past years, BuckeyeThon has put on a breakfast to thank Student Life team members for their help. Since we can’t all be together this time, I want to offer a High Five to everyone who has supported, encouraged and assisted Student Life Student Philanthropy director Felix Alonso and the amazing students who have accomplished so much.

Here are just some of the team members who deserve BuckeyeThon High Fives:

Stacy Smith, Beth Ullum, Beth Johnson, Rob Jech, Seth Rhodes, Travis Barnhart, Rachel Conners, Toni Greenslade-Smith, Cheryl Lyons, Quantá Taylor, Tonya Dawson, Johnnie Jordan, Elissa Kuharich, Stacey Renker, Kate Butler, Skylar Fought, Toni Rehr, Chris McGowan, Brittany Crall, Jen Cottrell, Aisha Echols, J. Randall Hicks, Sarah Sexton, Dave Isaacs, Jeff Pelletier, Natalie Hornback, Adrienne Gladish, Chris Nesler, Sam Binnig, Alex Richardson, Tracy Stuck, Kristen Smith, Zia Ahmed, Larry Moore, Tim Marshfield, Brandon Smith, Barb Kefalas and many others I have no doubt missed.

BuckeyeThon’s Dance Marathon was one of the first events I attended when I arrived at Ohio State. The passion, dedication and enthusiasm I saw was absolutely inspirational, and in that moment, I knew my hunch was right: this place is special. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this Dance Marathon special as well. You, and BuckeyeThon, are Scarlet and Great.
