May 10, 2024

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

High Fives to everyone who helped us navigate to the end of the semester. Ohio State is truly home to the best Student Life team in the nation, and I am Scarlet and Grateful for all you do to support each other and our community during challenging times.

Disability Services gets a High Five as their first Neilson Scholarship recipient, Justin Lennon, graduated last weekend with a Master of Social Work degree. The scholarship supports students with spinal cord injuries.

High Five to Eric Faulk, who is today escorting a number of military veterans to and from Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight program. The group is touring the Capitol and several monuments, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This is Eric’s third time volunteering with this program.

Housing and Residence Education (HRE) suggested some High Fives that I am happy to endorse for people on what they call the MNW (Manfield/Newark/Wooster) Area team. High Five to Laila Alharbi for doing amazing work at the Wooster campus, always focusing on the genuine care of students, staff and colleagues.

High Five to Shantrice Bradley at Newark for consistently going above and beyond to bring innovation to her work with students. Colleagues say Shantrice has the BEST ideas and enthusiasm for helping students succeed.

And Mike Schopieray gets a High Five for his continued support of Ohio State Mansfield students. Mike forms meaningful connections with the students that create an environment that they can thrive in.

Also in HRE, High Five to Heather Dwyer for being selected as a new member of the University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) for a three-year term.

High Fives to Student Conduct Assistant Directors Nicholas La Torre and Lacey Gosnell for being appointed to leadership appointments in ASCA – Association for Student Conduct Administrators. As you may have seen in Slice this morning, Lacey will be leading the Conflict Resolution Community of Practice. Nicholas will be leading Region 6, which includes Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and that state up north.

The entire Student Conduct team gets High Fives for, when considering the wellness impact of too much scrolling through social media, challenging themselves to read books during April.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend! Take care of yourselves and each other.
