Today's Update: Friday, March 20

March 20, 2020

Dear Student Life Team:

What a surreal week this has been. It was nothing like we would have predicted just a short time ago, yet think of all we accomplished. I cannot express how grateful I am for your extraordinary hard work, your dedication and your flexibility.

It is that flexibility that impresses me most. None of us came into this situation with a script or an outline of how to handle a pandemic of this magnitude. Our job descriptions don’t spell out what our duties should be in cases like this, let alone how to carry them out. And yet we all pulled together, kept our focus on the health and safety of the community and supporting our students, and accomplished the near-impossible.

I don’t want you to lose sight of what a remarkable job you’ve done. Your ability to pivot from getting ready for the end of the semester to all that needed to be done in an incredibility short amount of time has been nothing but stunning. I am so grateful to you all.

Our work is not done. Classes (virtual) will begin again next week, and we will continue our efforts to support students both on and off campus. But as we close out what has been the most unusual work week of my career, and probably yours, take a moment to realize just how extraordinary you are.

Likewise, as you are able, please take time for YOU. This is a stressful time, and I hope you can spend even a few moments on the rejuvenation that I know we all need.

I have said it before, and I will say it again and again: You truly are Scarlet and Great.
