Today's Update: Friday, March 19

March 19, 2021

Dear Student Life Team, It’s finally spring, we’ve had some warmer weather and the Buckeyes are underway in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament right now. Happy High Five Friday!

High Five and appreciation to the Counseling and Consultation Service and Multicultural Center teams for partnering with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to host a reflection session for those impacted by the tragic killings in the Atlanta area earlier this week. Special thanks to Sophia Antoun for hosting a community forum for Asian and APIDA identifying students, faculty and staff that brought together more than 60 people from across the university, including the Wexner Medical Center.

Ohio State has once again been designated a Voter Friendly Campus thanks to efforts by Student Life’s OSU Votes cohort. High Fives to the students, along with AJ Johnson and Anna Wagner of Student Activities, for championing the cause of voter education and citizenship. The announcement was in today’s Slice of Student Life.

I also saw in Slice this morning that Sorority and Fraternity Life’s Ashly Horton has received the Mark G. Noffsinger New Professional award from the Ohio College Personnel Association. High Five to a rising star in our profession.

High Five to our entire Student Advocacy Center team for all the many ways they support students and families during incredibly difficult times.

High Fives to Felix Alonso, Elissa Kuharich of Student Philanthropy and Marketing/Communications’ Aisha Echols and Skylar Fought for being a large part of our Day of Giving (March 22) effort. They are helping students understand the power and benefits of philanthropy.

This is going to be a busy weekend for those involved in the “Pack at Your House” event that I wrote about in Monday’s update. High Fives to everyone helping pack 120,000 meals, led by Tracy Stuck. Special thanks to the following Student Life team members who helped with various components of the planning: Daren Lehman, Rob Lyons, Brad Seaholm, Kristin Smith, Teri Cugliari, Abbey Kunce, Kirk Winters, Patrick Edwards, Jeremy Gabis, Kathy Krajnak, John Cronin, Stacey Renker, Dave Isaacs, Skylar Fought, Charity Martin-King, Rachel DeMooy, Preston Tartt, Kim Monteaux De Freitas, Matt Couch, Dave Wiseley, Lindsay Marx, Niki Prete, Seth Rhodes, Kellie Uhrig, Brittany Crall, J Randall Hicks, Jim Bowling, Travis Barnhart, Frida Gillespie, Victoria Bertero, Terianne Pitts, Elijah Balogh, Dan Schafer-Kuhlman, Katie Duffy, Willie Young Jr. and anyone else I missed.

High Fives to the Access Specialist team in Disability Services – Kelly Bonice, Lindsey Brown, Kayli Futty, Nicholas Huston and Michelle Salomone – for their outstanding work in managing over 150 full-semester remote participation requests this academic year! Each request required coordination with individual course instructors to figure out the feasibility and logistics of the accommodation. Their efforts allowed students with COVID high-risk conditions to continue their academic progress safely from home.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend and, as always, Go Buckeyes!
