Today's Update: Friday, June 5

June 5, 2020

Dear Student Life Team,

It’s been a week filled with highs and lows, and I'm excited to close it out with High Fives to everyone who has done such great work to get us here.

I want to start by High Fiving all those who have worked so hard, and continue to put in long hours, preparing for the start of autumn semester. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish the return of students without all that you have done and will continue to do.

I also want to thank all the departments, especially Counseling and Consultation Service and the Student Life Multicultural Center, for helping our students process the last couple weeks. Confronting injustice, racism, brutality and hatred is not easy emotionally, but we are giving students (and staff) the opportunity to come together to talk through their reactions in a constructive setting.

A pair of non-Student Life team members deserve High Fives for their help with the Buckeye Food Alliance pantry. Dr. Caroline Wagner, faculty member in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and her husband Dennis McIntosh, reached out ever since the COVID emergency began asking what items are in greatest need. They’ve donated hundreds of pounds of food tailored to our exact needs at the time. Colleen Crook, a tutor at the Student Athlete Support Services Office, has done much the same, including donating a wide array of much needed personal care items.

Buckeye Leadership Fellows suggests High Fives for our Student Life Marketing team, especially Marketing Specialist Aisha Echols and Graphic Designers Mariana Weflen and Sarah Sexton for their support.

High Five to Aubrie Smith for coordinating the summer turn schedule to get our buildings ready for the fall.

The Center for the Study of Student Life’s Michelle Colombini and Leah Halper get High Fives for reaching out to 300 employers for their plans for fall career fairs and their experiences with virtual career fairs.

And High Five to all of our team who had students graduate from high school recently.

Have a restful and reflective weekend, because you are Scarlet and Great!
