June 24, 2022

Dear Student Life Team,

Happy High Five Friday.

Last week I offered a general High Five to everyone who powered through the power outages. Today I want to name names of some of the people who pitched in or persevered through the blackouts on our Columbus, Wooster and Mansfield campuses: Caitlin Blake, Kelly Kyser, Mike Schopieray, Barb Kefalas, Mindy Clagg, Preston Tartt, Paul O’Leary, Tiffany Quattlebaum, Tom Roush, Randy Kline, Troy Keller, Jay Lax, Nick Leach, Chad Osborne, Kirk Winters, John Cronin, Steve Cihon, Drew Stark, Kim Traverse, Stacey Renker and Teri Cugliari.

High Fives as well to the many Housing and Residence Education team members who staffed the Lawrence Tower front desk while the power, and air conditioning, were off.

If you haven’t visited an Orientation session this summer, I’d highly recommend it. High Five to Matt Couch for leading our effort, and for being, as one team member reports, “knowledgeable, warm and covering a lot of information with ease” in the Life Outside the Classroom session. High Fives as well to our other presenters at Life Outside sessions this summer: Ryan Lovell, Danny Glassmann, Kristen Rupert Davis and Jenn Irwin.

Student Life also does the Get Involved sessions at Orientation. High Fives to facilitators Anna Wagner, Roger Perkey, Cassie Smith, Jordan Helcbergier and Madison Yee. High Five as well to Jen Pelletier for saving the day and jumping in at the very last minute to lead one of the sessions.

There was an item in Slice this morning about TJ Logan being honored with the ACUHO-I James C. Grimm Leadership and Service award. High Five, TJ, for earning such prestigious recognition from the Association of College and University Housing Officers- International. High Fives as well to the other team members who attended last week’s ACUHO-I conference in Pittsburgh, Qiana Smith, Moe Samad and Eric Jaburek, plus the ACUHO-I staff who work down the street.

High Five to Tom Reeves for securing a $15,000 Ohio State Energy Partners grant to do a student sustainability video project.

High Five to Buckeye Career’s Kristen Hill for her flexibility and willingness to help students find clothing to present their best selves during their internships and job search process. She’s handling individual requests now and is planning four pop-up Career Closet events for fall semester.

Our Facility Operations team has some High Five nominations:

  • Dining’s Nathan Darder for his unwavering partnership and support with our dining maintenance team.
  • Qiana Smith and her staff at Housing and Residence Education for their grace and understanding and also the partnership of holding us accountable for acceptable facility service delivery.
  • Preston Tartt of Risk and Emergency Management for his commitment to high levels of service and responsiveness to all requests.
  • The entire Facility Operations front line staff for their level of commitment and pride in their work they take to deliver all resident-ready spaces at the conclusion of the summer turn process.

Last week I gave High Fives to all our new team members, but I missed one. Martha Wessell was incorrectly classified through Workday so she wasn’t on the list. Belated High Five and welcome to Student Life, Martha! Also, High Five to Jonathan Register from Human Resources for helping fix the problem.

And last, but certainly not least, special High Fives to Candyce Williams and Stacy Smith for being overall rockstars for their positive attitudes and tremendous work ethic.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend!
