June 10, 2022

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

I want to start with a bittersweet High Five. It is with great pride, much appreciation and a lot of sadness I share that Associate Vice President Dr. Anne McDaniel will soon take her first step onto a new career path in the corporate world. Anne has announced that her last day at Ohio State will be Friday, June 24, after which she will lead a user research team at Klaviyo. While this is certainly a big loss for our Student Life team and the university, I am exceedingly happy for Anne that this new endeavor will provide the best degree of flexibility and support for her family in the future. I truly cannot thank Anne enough for ALL the Scarlet and Great ways she has made us a stronger organization throughout the past nine years. So, High Five, Anne, but we will miss you!

Our next High Five this week comes from our colleagues at the Lima campus, nominating Justin Courtney. They are impressed with the “magnificent job (he did) on the annual Academic Celebration. He changed the ambiance of the event and it never looked better.”

High Five those who helped close Buckeye Village, including Jen Nelson, Gabi Bockelman and John Cronin. It was a long and complex task, and the team handling all the moving parts smoothly, caring for the families with intentional thought and constant communication.

The Student Wellness Center nominates Ben Daleiden of Financial Management for a High Five in gratitude for all his work on utilizing Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) funding. They appreciate how helpful he’s been on their project over the past year.

High Fives to Kristen Hill, Tara Nord, Willie Young Jr. and Jennifer Chilman for sorting through and organizing donated clothing for Career Closet. They went through several bins and carts full of donated clothing, helping set up students for success when meeting with potential employers.

Sorority and Fraternity Life wants to share some love for the Business and Finance team.   “We appreciate you and are so thankful for your support and commitment.”

High Fives to Ashly Horton, Cristina Vega, Teri Cugliari and Jen Cottrell for helping call Project Excellence donors to retrieve engraving information. I can’t wait for the NPHC Plaza dedication over Homecoming weekend in the fall!

This morning’s Slice had an item about Kerry Hodak and Dr. Matt Couch writing a chapter in a new book, The Handbook for Supporting Today’s Graduate Students. High Five, Kerry and Matt.

Finally, High Five to Service2Facilities staff member Jovi Chapman. She was on her way into the office early one recent morning when she encountered someone from another team who accidentally locked their keys in a university van. Jovi quickly found solutions to get the situation resolved, and the person clocked out and was able to go home to bed after a long night on campus. High Five, Jovi, for being such a team player, especially all before 7 a.m.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend, everyone!
