Today's Update: Friday, July 31

July 31, 2020

Dear Student Life Team, Summer seems to be flying by, and that makes it all the more important that I pause and give High Fives for the great work you’re doing.

I’ll start with a High Five to Financial Management Director Donna Lewis. She’s retiring (officially next month, but today is her last day on the job) and will be greatly missed. She joined the Student Life team in February 2004 and has led or guided a number of important initiatives. She’s been a great colleague and friend to many of us, and I wish her well in her retirement. High Five!

This week’s list also includes the Student Health Center team members who have been working daily at the Jameson Crane COVID-19 swab station since May: Kaitlin Guzzo, Family Nurse Practitioner; Nick Mann, Pharmacist; Eric Trinter, Family Nurse Practitioner; Nurse Practitioner Sarah Philip; and Dr. Doug Radman, Physician. Their colleagues, and I, call them true heroes, working tirelessly, in the heat, in full PPE, swabbing up to 900 people per day.

High Five to Student Health Services Pharmacist Phil Anderson, who worked with the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Pharmacy Board to secure 25,000 cloth masks for Ohio State.

Zia Ahmed of Dining Services gets a High Five for helping a bicyclist that had crashed on Annie and John Glenn Avenue. Several other Student Life team members found Zia kneeling in the middle of the road with a lady and her bicycle. Zia was first on the scene and called the paramedics.

Beth Johnson gets a High Five for leading the Buckeye Leadership Fellows – Summer Experience Series, a 6-week, intensive, experiential leadership program for students across Ohio State who lost an internship, research opportunity or study abroad experience because of COVID-19. Beth provided coaching and feedback to the 105 students who met all requirements for completion of the program.

High Fives to Sorority and Fraternity Life director, Dr. Kim Monteaux De Freitas, and Student Life Multicultural Center executive director, Dr. Todd Suddeth, for their work leading the Commitment and Action Planning Team in Student Life. You’ll hear more about the group’s efforts next week.

Last, but certainly not least, High Fives to you. Staff Appreciation Week may be winding down, but my gratitude for you and all you do continues and grows. The team is absolutely the Scarlet and Greatest. Thank you!
