Today's Update: Friday, July 30

July 30, 2021

Dear Student Life Team, It’s High Five Friday, another opportunity to celebrate the Scarlet and Great work being done in Student Life.

High Five to Disability Services Access Specialist Kayli Futty for being selected as an exceptional staff member by University Staff Advisory Council (USAC). Kayli will be profiled as one of USAC’s next “Staff in the Spotlight” features.

D’Arcy Oaks and Brandon Smith get High Fives for agreeing to be Student Life’s Buckeyes for Charity team leads. You’ll be hearing more from them about the campaign soon.

Chris McGowan deserves a High Five for his fast and effective help with a special project that needed some fancy worksheet formatting.

There is a great deal of work being done at the state level to eliminate hazing, and Ohio State is leading the way. High Fives to the team that attended the recent Interdisciplinary Institute for Hazing Prevention (IIHP). Ohio State had the largest virtual delegation, including Will Cangialosi, Sorority and Fraternity Life; Alex Sommer, Student-Athlete Engagement; Krystal Reeb, Student Conduct; Cate Heaney Gary, Student Wellness Center; Molly Peirano, Office of Institutional Equity; Jen Pelletier, Student Activities; Donta Ingram, Office of University Compliance and Integrity/Marching and Athletic Bands; Toulaye Barro, President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.; and Sam Robinson, Interfraternity Council VP of Recruitment and Retention.

I love this next story. Advocacy’s Caleb Lesley worked with a student for several semesters trying to resolve a grade issue. What should have been a simple fix took nearly a year to resolve. Caleb went above and beyond, remained kind and professional, enlisted help of other offices for additional support and finally got resolution for the student. The student was very appreciative, and so am I for this wonderful example of how we support our students even when it isn’t easy. Thanks, Caleb, and High Five!

Keep up the Scarlet and Great work, and feel free to nominate someone going above and beyond!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Melissa
