Today's Update: Friday, January 15

January 15, 2021

Dear Skylar, Some days it’s hard to believe I’ve been here at Ohio State just over a year. Sometimes it feels like I’ve been a Buckeye forever, and other times it seems like the past year has gone by in a flash. I can’t even say I’m a “first-year” anymore now that I’m starting my second year. Here I am, a year later, building a house and a life in Central Ohio!

As I have been celebrating my first workaversary as a Buckeye, I want to offer a High Five to everyone on this amazing Student Life team. You made me feel at home from my first day, and have been nothing but extraordinary every day since.

I knew this was one of the best student affairs teams in the country before I ever came to Ohio State. In fact, it played a large role in my decision to accept this position. But I don’t think anyone on the outside can truly appreciate the level of commitment, passion and dedication that I see in you every day.

We’ve been challenged, upended and tossed into a sea of uncertainty, but this team has responded with innovation, resilience and flexibility. I knew we could pass all our tests, and seeing how you’ve done it is both inspiring and humbling.

There is no group of people I’d rather work with than the Student Life team at The Ohio State University. High Fives to each and every one of you.

I also want to talk to you about how things are going and what is on your mind. I’m restarting what we're going to call "The Doc Is In" so we can talk and I’m hoping you will schedule some time with me during one of the upcoming sessions. The next one is Wednesday, January 27, at 1:30 p.m. I’ll reserve time every other week to get together with as many people as possible. You can sign up online: If you desire a one-to-one conversation, let us know and I’ll do my absolute best to accommodate you.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for being Scarlet and Great.
