Today's Update: Friday, February 10

February 10, 2023

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

Buckeye Love is underway, and that means plenty of High Fives to those who are participating in acts of kindness this month.

High Fives to those who organized card writing groups on National Send a Card to a Friend Day: Brendan Greisberger, Qiana Smith, Chris Cole, Kellie Uhrig, Jen Cottrell, Jeff Pelletier, Kim Monteaux De Freitas, Charity Martin-King and Jen Pelletier. High Five as well to Candyce Williams for helping with set up.

Instead of their regular staff meeting, the Facility, Planning and Design team packed all kinds of surprises for students, sorting marketing materials and prepping regional Buckeye Love deliveries. High Fives to Jeremy Gabis, Thyrone Henderson, Rob Lyons, Sam Bradway, John Cronin, Kim Traverse, Bridgett Keener, Jenn Miller, Joel Sedziol, Rob Halliburton and Kevin Markielowski.

Bonus High Fives from that group to John Cronin, Steve Cihon and Drew Stark for volunteering to deliver Buckeye Love materials to regional campuses

High Fives to Adrienne Gladish and Daren Lehman for organizing the transportation to have Donato’s surprise four classes with heart shaped pizza parties.

Yesterday I got to help pack over 125 Birthday backpacks for food insecure kids at United Schools Network and Gladden House to make sure their birthdays would be celebrated. High Fives to the Student Conduct team of Kelly Smith, Cortney Brewer, Becca Hamilton, Kirby Bell, Lacey Gosnell, Nicholas La Torre, plus Jenn Miller, Aubrie Smith, Adrienne Gladish, Dave Isaacs, Kailee Missler and Candyce Williams.

I’ll have plenty more Buckeye Love High Fives next week.

Our next High Five goes to the Ohio Union Audio/Visual team of Chris Nesler, Sean Reynolds, Alex Richardson and their student employees for rolling out the new OWL meeting technology that makes it much easier to conduct a hybrid online and in-person meeting. High Fives as well to the Union’s Clint Daugherty, Colleen Lins and their student employees for their work on various room set-ups for inviting and efficient spaces.

High Fives for a very successful first-ever Belonging and Social Change Conference to chair Charity Martin-King, deputy chair Michelle Miranda, Lade Gbolade as well as the Social Change Ambassadors. It was a powerful conference that had a big impact on attendees.

Speaking of the Center for Belonging and Social Change, they would like High Fives for everyone who has helped them over the past few months. “From the continued tech solutions to explanation of new systems and fiscal process, to answering our many questions, everyone has been truly supportive.” They also want High Fives to the search committee members, including Chelsea Black, Lade Gbolade, Tierra Heath, Brandon Horton, Ahmed Hosni, Eddie Labid, Jayden Messer, Kristen Rupert Davis, Z Tenney, Anna Wagner, Leah Wheeler and Madison Woods.

High Five to Paul Wojdacz, Facilities Operations Manager in the Ohio Union, for successfully completing the Carpet Cleaning Technician certificate program through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC). This is a rigorous training and certification program that will help Paul and many others on our facilities operations teams keep our spaces looking great.

Peggy Butauski gets a High Five for organizing a space for Student Health Services staff to participate in a 30 days of Yoga Journey during their lunch time last month. The free (YouTube) sessions were 30 minutes or less and accessible for any level of fitness.

Kristen Hill of Buckeye Careers gets a High Five for coordinating donations and planning the Career Closet Pop up events, which have helped more than 600 students find business attire for career fairs, interviews and career opportunities.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend!
