December 16, 2022

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday.

I’ll start with High Fives to the people who helped support our students during a very successful Fall Sizzle on Tuesday night, including Dr. Tanisha Jenkins, Kellie Uhrig, Josh Bodnar, J. Randall Hicks, Kailee Misser, Tracy Stuck, Gabe Simms, Lindsey Boyd, Jen Cottrell, Travis Barnhart, Stacy Smith, Dr. Cheryl Lyons and the entire Ohio Union Events and Catering teams.  As always, the Catering team did a fantastic job creating joy in the form of yummy breakfast goodies for our Buckeyes! Our students always appreciate seeing university leadership supporting and celebrating them.

As you saw in Slice this morning, High Five to the Sorority and Fraternity Life team for earning the Excellence in Educational Programming award from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, especially Ngoc Nguyen and Will Cangialosi, Cristina Vega, who executed the program and coordinated the awards application, as well as Teri Cugliari, Student Life Marketing and the Center for the Study of Student Life for supporting functions of the Buckeye Greek Leadership Institute program the last three years.

High Fives to Student Life Disability Services for helping provide accessible testing experiences for students during Finals Week. High Fives to those who helped out, including Christian Thompson, Taylor Koon, Ryan Lovell, Kacy King, Nancy Thompson, Matt Page, Avery Ruff, D'Arcy Oaks, Alexis Sova, Sydney Rubin, Peter Hansen, Dion Elizondo, Abby Huffman, Bridgett Keener, Julie Humbel-Courtney, Leah Wheeler, Rachel DeMooy, Jordan Alexander, Kristen Hill, Jennifer Chilman, Samuel Jordan, Erica Regan, Austin Borreson, Tierra Heath, Tanisha Jenkins, Aisha Echols, Noah Gilbert, Beth Ullum, Ryan Wilhelm, Laura Conover, Rebecca Kapusta, Mollie Workman, Tara Nord, Tori Rehr, Courtney McCrary, Jenn Miller, James Gentry, Kim Traverse, Thyrone Henderson, Joni Sivey, Steph Lingofelter, Will Cangialosi, Mackenzie Hogan, Alyssa Cannella, Nathaniel McBride, Naomi DeJesus Rodriguez, Samantha Bradway and Barb Kefalas. I had the opportunity to help with scanning tests, and it was a really rewarding experience. I cannot tell you how much it warms my heart to see us supporting each other across the enterprise to support student success!

The Student Life toy drive to benefit United Schools Network Elementary schools in Columbus has concluded. High Fives to everyone who donated, and High Fives to Tracy Stuck and Daren Lehman for organizing and handling the toy deliveries. As of this morning they received 418 toys which allows them to give at least two toys to every scholar and sibling they have signed up. Our hearts are B1G in the Office of Student Life and I love it!

A colleague nominated the Ohio Union’s Natalie Hornback, for “always working through challenges with positivity and curiosity and always being willing to listen to the folks around here. It really feels like she wants to always find the right solution, not just one that works.” High Five, Natalie.

High Five to Ryan Lovell and the many Student Life team members and campus partners who have worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to work on the implementation of the Collin’s Law (CL) requirements. Ryan attended the President’s Cabinet earlier this week to seek support for the CL policy and received 100% approval!

High Fives everyone who was able to Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge in yesterday’s Buckeye Wellness Dodgeball Classic, including the Marketing and Communications team (Who Let the Dodge Out) with Seth Rhodes, Kailee Missler, Evelyn McBride, Johna Walls, Noelle Bartley and Travis Barnhart, and Danielle’s Dodgers (from Counseling and Consultation Service) with Jake Friedman, Jess Riley, Harry Warner, Jennifer Lang, Brian Fitts and Collin Pfaff.

This will be the last High Five message of 2022, so High Five to you for a successful semester. Please take time to relax and refresh over winter break. I’ll be back with more High Fives in the new year, so keep those nominations coming. Our Student Life team is the best in the world, and I love celebrating our accomplishments.

Have a Scarlet and Great winter break!
