Today's Update: Friday, April 8

April 8, 2022

Dear Student Life team,

Happy High Five Friday!

I love expressing my appreciation for all that our team does, but I also love it when one department expresses gratitude for the support they get from others. The folks in Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement have a whole lot of kudos to share, so let me add my High Fives to theirs.

  • High Five to the Center for the Study of Student Life’s Liz Lubinger. She continues to support our organization in a variety of ways, going above and beyond to address our many time-sensitive needs. From her participation in our recent interview processes and her thoughtful questions, to her contributions to assessment that helps inform some of our safety initiatives, Liz continues to be a rock star!
  • High Five to members of our SL Technology Services team, including Jon Plante, Sean Boiarski and Lisa Wang, who have been spending significant amount of time each week supporting our team as we commit to a more value-added, results-focused relationship with property owners.
  • High Five to Marketing’s Seth Rhodes for supporting our organization in a recent interview process and helping us identify our very first Operations Manager!
  • High Five to our friends in SL Risk and Emergency Management and Sorority and Fraternity Life, including Preston Tartt, Mindy Clagg, Stacey Renker and Teri Cugliari– from participating in our community education workgroup in order to continue producing critical education for our students as well as participating in door-to-door safety education with our team, to always being a strong partner during our Community Roundtables, we appreciate each of you!

My gratitude also goes to everyone across the university and our partners in the community for the tremendous support of our students as they have engaged in very challenging dialogue this week on topics that can be divisive. I also want to honor and acknowledge the many staff and faculty members who have also been impacted by these discussions. It has been a difficult time for many, and I thank everyone who has been supportive, caring and available for students.

This week we are celebrating the 2022 Student Leadership Awards, including both individual and organization honors. A collective High Five to all who were recognized, and special thanks to Anna Wagner and Brian Menard for organizing the program. A collective High Fives goes to everyone involved, including those who reviewed the applications and nominations. And, High Fives to the Student Life areas who sponsored awards, including the Multicultural Center, Student Employment Experience, Student Wellness Center and Sustainability.

Lastly, if you saw the BodyArmor scooters around campus handing out free samples recently, please know those types of activities don’t happen by magic. High Fives to Ali Hinkle, Stacy Smith and Aubrie Smith for their help in supporting the effort of our friends at Coca-Cola.

Have a Scarlet and Great weekend.
