Ohio State Recognized as a Leading Engaged Campus for College Student Voting

November 16, 2022

Ohio State is one of a select number of colleges and universities recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2022 ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting. This comes on the heels of being recognized by ALL IN with a Gold Seal in the 2020 Campus Democracy Challenge.

This year, ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognized 394 colleges and universities for making intentional efforts to increase student voter participation.

Ohio State received this recognition due to the university’s commitment to civic engagement and voter education. The university’s motto is “Education for Citizenship” and Ohio State has once again committed to living out that motto by participating in the Big Ten Voting Challenge and competing against other Big Ten schools for highest student voter turnout numbers.

High turnout happens because the university is educating young voters on how to make their voice heard. Much of this voter education is facilitated by Student Life’s OSU Votes.

The Office of Student Life’s OSU Votes is a student-led movement to register, educate and encourage other students to vote. This nonpartisan group fosters civic engagement while providing students with the necessary information and materials needed to vote in every local, state and federal election.

“College student voter turnout has increased since 2016, and this increase has been driven by students. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is excited to expand our ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll to recognize these student voting champions across the country,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of ALL IN.

ALL IN is a national nonpartisan initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) organization, currently engaging over nine million students from more than 950 institutions nationwide.

While turnout data for 2022 is not yet available, Buckeyes turned out in record numbers in 2020. Since Ohio State student turnout numbers have increased every election cycle since 2012, it is likely that 2022 turnout numbers will continue that trend.
