In A Nutshell: April 30, 2021
April 30, 2021
Dear Partners in Student Success:
Congratulations! As of today, we will have successfully completed the year, and though it hasn’t been easy, it has been well-worth the hard work. As we all look to take some time to slow down, reset and rejuvenate during the summer, my bi-weekly messages to you will slow down as well. During the summer months, In a Nutshell will be sent once monthly and we will keep that schedule through the next academic year as well. Below are some updates and information I hope you find helpful:
Virtual Processional Photo Submission
Do you know a student who can’t make it to the in-person commencement ceremonies on May 9 but would still like to participate in some way? Or even someone who will be there and would like to see their image on the big screen? Graduating students can submit photos of themselves in their graduation attire to be included in the special virtual commencement processional video that will play live and virtually during the commencement events. Photos are due on Monday, May 3 and can be submitted online.
Commencement Eve Candlelight Ceremony
As a reminder, graduating students and their families and guests are invited to the Spring Commencement Candlelight Ceremony, which will be held both in-person and virtually on Saturday, May 8. In addition to a limited number of in-person seats, the event will also be shown virtually. More information about this event is available on the Commencement Week website.
Graduation Survey Now Open
Spring 2021 graduates are invited to share their feedback about their experience at Ohio State by completing this semester’s Graduation Survey. Their valuable feedback will help us enhance the student experience for future Buckeyes. Students should have received a link to the survey in their email. More information is available on the Center for the Study of Student Life website.
Summer Career Tips and Ideas
Even if a student didn’t land a summer internship or job, that doesn’t mean their career journey stops. Students can continue to stay active, improve their online presence, build their resume and more by following these tips and ideas from Buckeye Careers and Career Counseling and Support services.
Testing for In-Person Commencement Participants
Commencement is fast approaching, and we are looking forward to celebrating our graduates in-person! A message was sent to all graduates on Friday, April 22, making them aware of the testing and safe and healthy requirements to enter the commencement ceremony. Students will be required to show a green status on their Daily Health Check App upon entry, which means they will need to schedule and complete a COVID-19 test during the week of Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7. More information about the requirements for commencement can be found on the commencement website.
COVID-19 Vaccine Location at the Ohio Union
A vaccine site for students, faculty and staff is now open in the Performance Hall on the first floor of the Ohio Union. This site will operate Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. through at least Friday, May 7. Appointments can be scheduled through MyChart or by calling the Wexner Medical Center COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 614-688-VAXX (614-688-8299). More information is available on the Safe and Healthy Buckeyes website.
Office of Student Life named 2021 Most Promising Places to Work
Ohio State’s Office of Student Life has again been named one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. This is the seventh year in a row for this recognition. With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment, the research uses a web-based survey approach to examine categories including family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities. More information is available on the Student Life website.
Student Life Disability Services selected as 2021 Friend of ACADAOS
The Academic Advising Association of Ohio State (ACADAOS) has selected Student Life Disability Services as their 2021 Friend of ACADAOS. The Friends of ACADAOS award is presented annually to a campus office/partner that has demonstrated themselves to be an outstanding resource both for students and for the academic advising community on campus. In making the award, ACADAOS said, “Thank you...for all of the work that you have put into helping students and staff not just over the past year, but every year!”
As always, thank you for your partnership and support of our students over this past academic year. I hope you have a lovely summer!
